Looks like Delta is far more mature in her thinking than Bernice is. But then, Delta has other plans that don’t include finding a guy to be awkward with. As she said, there’s plenty of time for romance, especially with the more mature guys in college… ;)

“Here we are 24 years later and no regrets about missing prom.” That’s really great that you found the right woman…can you believe your 25th is just around the corner? The dancing you’ll do then and the dancing you did at your wedding far outweighs any prom! ;)

I didn’t go to my Senior Prom. My date broke up with me a week before the prom, and instead of taking someone else, I thought, “What’s the point? I’ll be out of this town for good in another month anyway!” So I didn’t go.

And I did get out of there. No regrets.

I also did not attend prom.. however, I found that whatever people did at prom was no different than what one could do at any other gathering… the only difference was that you had to do everything in “dress clothes” at prom, vs. what one may do “naturally”, in a less formal setting…. – Plus, like Delta said, there are times when one may appreciate certain things a little better, later on…

Funny thing is, I’m coming up on the anniversary of proposing to my wife…. she remembers the date almost to a “tee”…. – We went to the same High School, but never met formally until years later, through a mutual friend… so like you, I didn’t need a prom to help me find romance… in fact, I probably would not have appreciated what a gem I would have had back then, as much as I do after our High School Years…not because I wouldn’t have tried to treat her right, but because when one is a teen, there are so many choices, and during the teen years, we may not always see the right decisions to make, as much as later, especially in regards to what true love is!…

Mine was April 22, and our wedding date was Oct. 14… – I said that about my wife remembering, only because I know of people who remember the anniversary date, and the experience of getting proposed to, or doing the proposing, but don’t always actually celebrate or remember the actual date of the proposal… I think they are glad to at least get the wedding one right…

The costs involved in going to a prom now are absurd—don’t see how a lot of teens can afford it. I graduated in 1971, when proms were more normal and affordable. Mine was fun but I wasn’t serious about either of the guys that I went with.

Prom’s (as such, at least) were unheard of when i was growing up in the UK in the late 60s. Whereas by the 90’s, when my kids were growing up, all the schools had them.

Personally, I reckon it’s daft to choose miss out on a significant event, even if it’s because (say) “you don’t have a date”. Experiences leave the memories you’ll have all your life – grasp them to the full. And enjoy yourself.

Finally her friends convinced him to ask and she still did not respond to meI finally decided that although it was rude of me I would ask another

As far as I can tell, Prom is that dance you go to with the person you asked out five months ago and can no longer stand. You still go to it with them because you already spend so freaking much money on he tickets and tux/dress.

If Delta waits until she is too grown up to start looking for romance, she will seriously miss a very important aspect of life. When she does finally look for ‘romance’ she will have no really understanding of how to approach it. Without the trials and errors of dating earlier in life she’ll be missing a key sociological understanding of human relationships. Sure, she’ll have experienced some from the outside having watched others go through their dating issues and possibly marriage. But she won’t have any direct, first-hand experiences of her own that she could learn from.

On a second note, bookworms like Bernice often are very attractive (hot) young woman. They don’t know it and don’t portray themselves to be, and that is what makes them even more so. At least from my school experiences so long ago. She may not have a date for prom, but she will arrive as a total knockout. And she won’t even know it.

OH, for the LOVE Of….,Delta, SERIOUSLY?!!?

You Can “Improve the World,” as YOU Call it, ANY Darn Time!!!

The High School Senior Prom Comes Only ONCE in Your Lifetime!!!

I Mean WHAT? Is It Against Your Religion to have a Few Hours of FUN or Something?

Do You Think that adding “I DIDN’T Go to the Senior Prom” will be Eye Catching on Your Resume?

Too Busy for Prom Night because You’re Gearing Up for the 2016 Elections?

Its Funny though. You once Dressed Up and went Trick or Treating with Bernice and Luann. And You Actually had FUN.NOW, NOT Going to the Prom and having a Good Time, is some sort of Neo-Revolutionary Act. Geeeeeez, THIS Kid.

Tell You What Delta: YOU Go to the Prom and I’ll INVITE the Local Homeless to Attend. Then You can Have FUN and Do Some GOOD at the Same Time! Or Better STILL, I’ll Invite Them to Your First Inauguration!

    Just Don’t TELL Anybody…….,

I was in high school during the brief era when proms weren’t popular, and some schools didn’t have them. The prom was held on the first Earth Day in 1970. Six couples went to the prom. Everyone else went over to the junior college where they had a free Earth Day dance on the tennis courts.

I went to a school dance and they had the music so loud I had to stuff paper towels in my ears in order to stand it (no cotton available and I didn’t know to bring earplugs). Afterwards I couldn’t get the last bit of paper towel out and my mother had to pick it out with a tweezers. It felt like she was pulling part of my ear guts out. I never went to any kind of school dance after that.

‘Prom’ is an American thing, but it has relations in other countries. It began as the Senior Graduation dance, the last party of High School, leaving your friends and (hopefully) becoming an adult and going to college.

The word is derived from Promenade, a garden walk, which refers to your graduation walk for a diploma.

With respect to social events like proms, people who have choices should do what is most comfortable for them. Some of us went because we had never gone to school dances before, and didn’t want to regret never having that experience, but it sure isn’t the tragedy that cancer is. So skipping it if you aren’t interested is no biggy.-On the other hand, telling someone who wants to go that there are more important things overlooks the fact that the other person DOES want to go and is disappointed not to be able to go. Just because a dance isn’t important to one person doesn’t mean that it’s ok to tell the other person that there are more important things in life…

Delta, if you aren’t interested in dating and going to the prom, fine. Just say that. Instead, you choose to lay a guilt trip on Bernice by saying that people who want to go to the prom aren’t spending their time on making the world a better place, and they aren’t serious enough. Could you just let them decide to have some fun without getting all sanctimonious and holier-than-thou about it?

This is why I don’t like Delta, not that she’s such an over achiever but that she acts like she’s 18 going on 50. Quit trying to save the world and enjoy being young, if only for a little while. And if you wait until you’re ‘grown up’ for romance, you won’t have much experience as to how to navigate it. High school is when you’re supposed to get your feet wet romantically, though some, like Luann, choose to dive in head first.

I dunno. The first thing I thought was:

Next Panel: Bernice and Delta staring at each other.

Next Panel: Bernice and Delta still staring at each other.

Next Panel: Bernice and Delta kissing, Bernice ’s eyes wide in surprise.

Want a twist with tons of story possibilities leading up to prom? There it is…

In my day, you needed a date to go to prom. An opposite sex date. These days most places let you go alone or with a group of friends. I think most kids go to Senior Prom, even without a date, because it’s a last chance to hang out with their friends before graduation.

Delta’s self-righteous condescending attitude annoys me. How exactly does her not going to the prom improve the world? What an ego.

Actually, I was “Pitting” Bernice’s “it’s gonna be a gas” vs. Delta’s “it’s more noble not to do it”, but it’s “still on the same street”…just a few houses down….

Poor Delta, if she was older she could drink the cool aid in Washington. She sounds perfect for Obummers staff, big ideas no action.

If you don’t want to date or go to the prom, then fine, everything’s not for everyone, so I hope you have a pleasant evening doing whatever else it is you choose to do instead of going to the prom, and that’s that. Now knock off the sermonizing, Delta, and just let Bernice enjoy her moment here, fantasizing about being asked out.

In Saturday’s strip Rosa asked Gunther to run away to Peru with her and then that story line just ended. What the heck?!

Of course you know that Greg hit the reset button several times after Delta’s “Cancer” scare, right?
