Bernice: "So you're not going to the prom?" Delta: "I'm pretty sure there are more important things in life" Bernice: "You don't care about the glamour and romance?" Delta: "I care about improving the world. Doing good. Awkward dates are pointless. Romance can wait 'til I'm grown up" Bernice: "And I thought not going to the prom was a tragic downer. You make it sound like a noble achievement" Delta: "It's whatever you think it is"

Perspective. Perception. Point Of View.
ORMouseworks about 11 years ago
Looks like Delta is far more mature in her thinking than Bernice is. But then, Delta has other plans that donāt include finding a guy to be awkward with. As she said, thereās plenty of time for romance, especially with the more mature guys in collegeā¦ ;)

Deltaās an odd one. Not your typical teenager. I hope she has time for fun once she hits college.
ORMouseworks about 11 years ago
And because she has the right attitude, she will probably succeed as she grows into adulthood. Iām guessing that by the time she gets in her junior year in college at Howard University (or it might be āCollegeā), sheāll have a lot of guys interested in herā¦ ;)

Missing out on a prom isnāt a big deal. I never went to any of mine. Never had anyone to go with.
ORMouseworks about 11 years ago
āHere we are 24 years later and no regrets about missing prom.ā Thatās really great that you found the right womanā¦can you believe your 25th is just around the corner? The dancing youāll do then and the dancing you did at your wedding far outweighs any prom! ;)
SF1972 about 11 years ago
I didnāt go to my Senior Prom. My date broke up with me a week before the prom, and instead of taking someone else, I thought, āWhatās the point? Iāll be out of this town for good in another month anyway!ā So I didnāt go.
And I did get out of there. No regrets.
JayBluE about 11 years ago
I also did not attend prom.. however, I found that whatever people did at prom was no different than what one could do at any other gatheringā¦ the only difference was that you had to do everything in ādress clothesā at prom, vs. what one may do ānaturallyā, in a less formal settingā¦. ā Plus, like Delta said, there are times when one may appreciate certain things a little better, later onā¦

Funny thing is, Iām coming up on the anniversary of proposing to my wifeā¦. she remembers the date almost to a āteeāā¦. ā We went to the same High School, but never met formally until years later, through a mutual friendā¦ so like you, I didnāt need a prom to help me find romanceā¦ in fact, I probably would not have appreciated what a gem I would have had back then, as much as I do after our High School Yearsā¦not because I wouldnāt have tried to treat her right, but because when one is a teen, there are so many choices, and during the teen years, we may not always see the right decisions to make, as much as later, especially in regards to what true love is!ā¦
ORMouseworks about 11 years ago
97? Well, you Never knowā¦what with life spans becoming longer due to modern medicine and a focus on diet and exercise and a bit of meditationā¦ ;)
ORMouseworks about 11 years ago
Berniceā¦try not to be so desperateā¦it isnāt the end of the world if you donāt have an āactualā date for the promā¦just find a few friends to go with you and, who knows, you just might meet someone to be with you! And, on that note, I am closing up shop for the nightā¦see yāall later on today! ;)
JayBluE about 11 years ago
Mine was April 22, and our wedding date was Oct. 14ā¦ ā I said that about my wife remembering, only because I know of people who remember the anniversary date, and the experience of getting proposed to, or doing the proposing, but donāt always actually celebrate or remember the actual date of the proposalā¦ I think they are glad to at least get the wedding one rightā¦
Tindros about 11 years ago
Iām starting to wonder if Delta isnāt planning to go to the prom because sheās decided sheās just not into guys. Thereās been a lot of comic strip characters coming out lately, and maybe Evans has similar plans for Delta.

Promās (as such, at least) were unheard of when i was growing up in the UK in the late 60s. Whereas by the 90ās, when my kids were growing up, all the schools had them.
Personally, I reckon itās daft to choose miss out on a significant event, even if itās because (say) āyou donāt have a dateā. Experiences leave the memories youāll have all your life ā grasp them to the full. And enjoy yourself.

I decided to go to the prom my senior yearI asked a likely prospect to go with meShe said she would let me knowit would be rude to ask others while her offer was still extendedShe hoped a particular boy would ask her but held off on rejecting me in case he didnāt ask
Finally her friends convinced him to ask and she still did not respond to meI finally decided that although it was rude of me I would ask another
She accepted out of kindnessAfterward she sent word by her set of friends she did not want to go out again(I hope the message was really from her.)mating games would be better with set, written rules

I went to my prom, it was a tragic downer!
cdward about 11 years ago
As far as I can tell, Prom is that dance you go to with the person you asked out five months ago and can no longer stand. You still go to it with them because you already spend so freaking much money on he tickets and tux/dress.
Phongor about 11 years ago
If Delta waits until she is too grown up to start looking for romance, she will seriously miss a very important aspect of life. When she does finally look for āromanceā she will have no really understanding of how to approach it. Without the trials and errors of dating earlier in life sheāll be missing a key sociological understanding of human relationships. Sure, sheāll have experienced some from the outside having watched others go through their dating issues and possibly marriage. But she wonāt have any direct, first-hand experiences of her own that she could learn from.
On a second note, bookworms like Bernice often are very attractive (hot) young woman. They donāt know it and donāt portray themselves to be, and that is what makes them even more so. At least from my school experiences so long ago. She may not have a date for prom, but she will arrive as a total knockout. And she wonāt even know it.

I was in high school during the brief era when proms werenāt popular, and some schools didnāt have them. The prom was held on the first Earth Day in 1970. Six couples went to the prom. Everyone else went over to the junior college where they had a free Earth Day dance on the tennis courts.

Bernice apparently will buy the dress and go to the prom and enjoy it. Delta apparently will not go the the prom and will enjoy it. No victims. No fouls. No losers.
ewalnut about 11 years ago
I went to a school dance and they had the music so loud I had to stuff paper towels in my ears in order to stand it (no cotton available and I didnāt know to bring earplugs). Afterwards I couldnāt get the last bit of paper towel out and my mother had to pick it out with a tweezers. It felt like she was pulling part of my ear guts out. I never went to any kind of school dance after that.

I went to both my Junior and Senior proms (with two different guys) and had a ball. I remember my Mom gave me $15 to get a prom dress and I found a gorgeous one on the sales rack. I thought it was one of the prettiest there.
davbart92663 about 11 years ago
āPromā is an American thing, but it has relations in other countries. It began as the Senior Graduation dance, the last party of High School, leaving your friends and (hopefully) becoming an adult and going to college.
The word is derived from Promenade, a garden walk, which refers to your graduation walk for a diploma.
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago
With respect to social events like proms, people who have choices should do what is most comfortable for them. Some of us went because we had never gone to school dances before, and didnāt want to regret never having that experience, but it sure isnāt the tragedy that cancer is. So skipping it if you arenāt interested is no biggy.-On the other hand, telling someone who wants to go that there are more important things overlooks the fact that the other person DOES want to go and is disappointed not to be able to go. Just because a dance isnāt important to one person doesnāt mean that itās ok to tell the other person that there are more important things in lifeā¦
