Climbing the tower only means Tabby will be trapped. Not sure why he thinks this will give him an advantage, but his actions donāt seem very rational to me. Unless Iām missing something?
Well, if itās a āvantage pointā he wants then there must be something he wants to see. Maybe an escape route? I really donāt see how he could escape with two police right there.
I couldnāt figure out what happened to Montana Joe yesterday, but it seems he has escaped. I wonder if heās on the roof. The truck is still there which seems to confirm that Gertie lied and that it really is her truck, because Joe didnāt use it to escape.
In the real world, cops arenāt supposed to fire on fleeing suspects, but I canāt wait to see what happens next. Climbing the tower doesnāt seem like a smart move, and why did Angus go to the radio station in the first place? On an unrelated topic, one of Annieās favorite places was the Broadcast Ranch.
ā¼ā¦.. ā» When he gets about Ā¾ the way up that ladder put a slug in his back side DT! Then ole Tabby A. will be āŖ ā¦ ā« and then he will come ā with a thud.
The only explanation for this bizarre turn of events that I can see is that Tabby Angus is, like Cody Jarrett, completely addled at this point; and if he wonāt go out in a blaze of glory as James Cagney did in 1949, maybe heāll end up taking a spectacular dive. (I donāt think there is any logical reason to think Montana Joe might be up there, but who knows where he has gone?)
I concur with many of the sentiments above ā this story arc is really making no sense. āConfusedā is how I would characterize it. Probably as a result of juggling too many simultaneous plots.
So ā let me get this straight ā Tabby allegedly realizes that he has been ratted out after all and flees (casually) on horseback to a radio station, where he impulsively decides to steal a car and abandon his thirsty prize racehorse. He then commits additional crimes (assault and battery, attempted kidnapping, illegal possession of a firearm) in full view of witnesses, definitively overpowers two armed members of the MCS, who for some reason repeatedly hesitate to shoot him, and flees to the top of the radio stationās transmitter tower, which has a perfect vantage point for an as-yet-unrevealed part of his scheme. Is that correct?
Sorry, guys; Iāve been reading Dick Tracy since 1959 (Flyfaceās first appearance) and even in the darkest days of the previous administration one didnāt find this much confusion and as many WTF moments as we are seeing here. I hope it gets better, but pulling a rabbit out of this hat is going to be tough. Obviously, Montana Joe will be involved in the finale, whatever that is going to be.
Whoās writing this storyāMike Curtisā third-grade son? None of Angusā actions the last two weeks have made any sense, and yes, Gouldās Dick Tracy would have fired to keep Angus from fleeing, especially after Angus had threatened Tracyās daughter-in-law at gunpoint only minutes earlier.
Confusion it is! Maybe since the tower has an antenna and lots of power going to it, maybe Angus will get electrocuted. On second thought that would make since in the real world. So that wonāt happen. Perhaps he will dive into a swimming pool with no water. Not happening, because that makes sense in the confusing comic strip.
Think about it. Tabby Angus seems to deal in ringers, like his racehorses. I suspect this is a double of his, drugged up and with orders to cause as much chaos as possible, while Angus slips away.
This is just all over the place. Even with the complicity of his blackmail victim, if Angus was this sloppy and chaotic the rest of the time he never would have gotten away with everything he has. Nor would the Blackhearts be willing to deal with him. This is just all wrong. The only thing I predict with any confidence is that the Plentyās will wind up in possession of Spark Plug.
āAha! I can escape in this police carā¦ ooh, shiny tower! I think Iāll climb it!āIām sure somethingās up. (no pun intended).BTW, Angus has done this climbing a tower beforeā¦
Why didnāt Sam shoot him right on the spot, when Angus crashed that chair on Tracyās head? Maybe the streets would have less crooks on them if the PoPo would actually use their weapons instead of letting them go (ala Blackjack)! Or, did the ammunition shortage get to the Police Department, too?
There is some evidence that Hitler actually retired to Argentina along with other Nazis. Yes, the evidence is weak [https://duckduckgo.com/?q=did+hitler+escape+to+argentina], but when there is no body ā people will speculate.
For that matter, since no one was allowed to see the alleged body of Osama Bin Laden dumped in the ocean, Iām not convinced heās dead.
Angusā actions do seem odd but perhaps we donāt know everything. Interesting how everyone was loving this story and how fickle everyone quickly turns when something unusual happens. I prefer a āwait and seeā attitude before jumping to conclusions.
I think what weāre seeing here is that the syndicate has asked Joe and Mike to have a shorter story run on this one, when they had this planned out for a longer period of time. It reads like a bit of editorial influence to me (like being told you have a two hour movie to write, and, halfway through, youāre told, āNo, itās only 90 minutesāwrap things up quicker.ā
Youāre all forgetting that Angus is great at crimes that require thought and planning: premeditated murder (via Nightmare), money laundrying, blackmail (Clark), contract murders (Rosato), etc. But now heās on the run ā and heās not used to improvising. Expect bad decisions.-Montana Joe (and his concussion) could be anywhere ā even checking the tower, if he thought they were knocked off the air.He could become Angusā last victim.
āYeah, if Chet Gould directed, the monkeyād have been dead already!ā________________________
Not only would Tracy have shot Angus, we would have seen the bullet trail leaving Tracyās gun and going through Angus. How times have changed. It occurs to me that more violence is shown now on TV.
Whatever is going on here, I realize that no matter how logical or methodical someone might be, that can all go out the window when they are in a panic. This is precisely where Angus finds himself.
Usually cops who do that get off anyway. One day soon they will be encouraged to kill more__________________Itās a fine line to toe. Cops are either considered to be practitioners of police brutality or else too soft on criminals.
The truckās still being there only means that Joe hasnāt used it. After being knocked unconscious, he may be too woozy to drive.
After after reviewing, I see that Angus said Joe didnāt have his keys on him, so that would have stopped him driving. Maybe Angus wants to go up on the tower to see where Joe went, but Iām not sure for what purpose.
You said: āIf he was rational, he wouldnāt be a criminal in the first place.ā-āāāāāI agree entirely.Prisons are full of people who thought they were smarter than everyone else.
To me, heās saying the tower is the perfect place to have a āLast standā, tower shooters are probably the hardest mass-murderers to capture, without casualties.
Warning! I previously tried to post this comment, but inadvertently hit the wrong key and lost the comment. So this may result in a double post.I am surprised that no one has remarked on the similarity between this strip and the Clint Eastwood / Tyne Daly movie, "The Enforcerā in which the cornered villain, Bobby Maxwell, drags the mayor of S.F. halfway up to the guard tower at Alcatraz. Inspector Callahan then blasts Maxwell with a Lawās Rocket. Exit Bobby Maxwell, RIP Tyne Daly.
