If I had a daughter, I would give her the following choices of colleges to attend:Bryn MawrMount HolyokeSmithWellesley Scripps Guess what they have in common?
I’m a survivor of abuse. I had it drilled into me as a child by the monster that was my father I was required to “finish the job”. I can’t tell you how many times I was crying during the whole thing. The guys never once stopped and asked if I was OK. They just wanted to have their fun. I was graced with 2 daughters. From an early age I taught them to protect themselves. My husband (their dad) thankfully wasn’t like the others. He said that it didn’t matter what had been going on. If they changed their mind the action had to stop then and there.
I worked at a state university, not an important school but not tiny, either. It has its own police force, and since they work directly for the state, they take precedence over the city police. Things happen on campus, robberies, assaults, suicides, rapes, even one killing, that the local people generally never hear about. And know what? Mostly, everyone in the city is okay with that, because what’s good for the university is good for the city. If that means ignoring crime, oh well.
I have a teen daughter, and even if I didn’t, I would still think it is great that sexual assault on campus is being addressed in this forum and others. It is difficult, since the campus often has a vested interest in not siding with the victim, if the one accused attends their school.
I know there are many sexual assault cases which go unreported. This is because who would want to go through all that &%$$ all over again? Sadly, that is what happens when one does report the crime. If someone were to report such a thing “just for attention,” i have to question the mental health of such an individual. We are not only talking about female sexual assault victims either. There are both male and female sexual assault victims.
I lived in a forest for 30 years then came out and got married… biggest mistake of my life. Now I’ve lived on my own island for another 20 years. Those 5 years of marriage are still a nightmare.
First things first, we should raise our sons to respect women. Remind them, that could be your sister, one day your daughter — and not too far in the past — it could’ve been your mother.
Doonesbury has been on the soapbox since it was founded back in the Nixon administration. What makes you think that is going to change? If you don’t like him on his soapbox, READ SOMETHING ELSE for crying out loud!
It might be a good rule to follow to not have sex while drunk, if you really think that you will be likely to get in a situation in which you might be falsely accused of sexual assault. Or if you really believe that this is a situation which happens often (or even seldom). Impossible to follow this rule you say? Well, maybe that is the problem. A little personal responsibility could go a long way.

And to do that “Saint Quarterback” (or Forward, or Pitcher, or whatever) can’t be stained by the violence he uses on others to get his way. If you want to play your sports games, go do it, and get them away from colleges where people are actually trying to LEARN.(reply button not working to post directly to his(?) comment.
If there was any genuine concern about the safety of students, rather than have a university “adjudicate” the matter, the matter would be turned over to the police and the DA.
Prostitution should be totally legal, because men’s needs are strong. There are many men without wives or girlfriends. They suffer, usually in silence. Society would be safer with fully legal prostitution. The current situation is cruelty.
Wow, I am amazed that Trudeau actually took a good hard slam at the liberal bastion, Universities. Well said Universities are notorious for looking the other way, especially when high profile athletes are involved. However when it was not a high profile minority student in the Rutgers Lacrosse case they sure threw them under the bus.
“She claimed he molested her while passed out. The police were called, and this kid got what he “deserved”. ".Quite possible. The jury had to decide based on the testimony of the two parties involved and other witnesses and physical evidence..You don’t know what actually happened.I don’t know what actually happened. We don’t even know if she was drugged by him or some other hopeful.Rapists seldom rape in public and often think “she asked for it” even if she is nine years old..Moral of this story: get as drunk as you want and be ready to enjoy the consequences.
“Being a woman is hard and we men need to know and understand and listen to the women.”.It’s a fair attempt, but uncertain it will succeed when brains work differently in some cases.Besides, NOT being a woman is even harder for women.
There are also some men who are sexually assaulted by other men, as well as same sex assault among women. Just because people don’t talk about it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.
Rape is almost never about sex — it’s about attack, assault, abuse, control. The last time I checked, assault was a crime — or does that only apply to males?
Back when I was in University at orientation they went on about safety and how to avoid sex assaults. Same U today they teach them safe sex and not to be bothered by sexual assaults, Campus security is the enemy, you’re supposed to have lots and lots of sex so live with it. Sad.
And I remember how pimps/slavers would occassionally toss a hooker/slave ofut a high window in New Orleans when she got uppity or started showing wear and tear. It helped keep the other ladies/slaves in line. The mayor did nothing to protect them and the police looked the other way for their cut..And the people of NOLA simply accepted it as status quo. Dehumanizing all around

Women should be able to safely walk around totally naked. They should not object when men look, but no man has the right to touch without her consent.

If you don’t want “soapbox” (which usually means someone doesn’t agree with what’s being said), why do you read Doonesbury in the first place?
