As we pause in our World War 2 era story (however fake the 1944 environment may be), we are met with a stark reminder that the end of all wars still hasnât happened. Beautiful art again today, rendered in Joe Statonâs Dick Tracy style.
Sadly 9-11 was not just a story but a painful reality we must never forget. Thank you team Tracy for honoring all those who were affected by that horrible day.
Some came runningInto dangerRisk their livesHelping strangers.Mighty towersTumbled downMany helpersNever found.Save us from the true believersHateful violence, vile deceivers.Today âtis fitting to recallSome came running, sacrificing all.
I was working the night shift that day. I went to sleep around five AM with the tv set playing. I woke up briefly that morning to the vision of a fiery tower. My first thought was this nightmare seems very real. It wasnât until I got up several hours later that I found my nightmare was all too real.
The danger never goes awayâŚIt diminishes, recedes but always returns in a different form. Thank you all, first responders and those who serve or have served in the military. You are my HEROES!
Tim, it was 13 years ago. Have you forgotten already? If we stop reminding ourselves we stop preparing ourselves. We do not live in the past. But we must remember Pearl Harbor so we are not taken by surprise. We must remember the Holocaust so we are not deceived by hatred toward another group of people, and we must remember 9/11 so we understand that you cannot understand radical fanatics. You cannot have discussions with such people because they have no sense of the value of human life, only their view of dominance.
âŚ..and whatâs wrong with honoring the valor and sacrifice of the many on that day with such a powerful (albeit speechless) image as the strip has done today?
Tim, there is an earlier post by donaldo. Go back and read it. Am I the only one here who finds it offensive? Do you? I posted a response and later deleted it.
Tim, two years ago you had no problem with the strip â ânice touch team tracy.. almost as good as the 4th of july one! i dont mind this kind of interruption to a storylineâ. Last year you had a problem, so eleven years is the limit I guess. Whatever.
drsid, youre teling me that you went back thru all my comments on this day for the last few years to compare it to what i wrote today? thats pretty sad.
and for the record, i DONT mind the interruption of the storyline for rememberance, but every single lousy media outlet drags it up all the time. like i said on my facebook page just a few minnutes agoâŚ
i want to see the day when national media covers the reading of all the names of the military and civilians that were killed in pearl harbor, and all the soldiers that are honored on memorial day, and i want it to be televised all day long and on the radio and a moment of silence, and on the front page of every newspaper
since youre such an âarchivistâ drsid, check this year on memorial day and the fourth of july and on december 7th and on martin luther king day, and then check every single year since mike and joe took over and see if they stayed true to remembering each and every one of those days every single yearâŚ. because i can tell you this much.. the media all but IGNORES december 7th, and the government actually had a thought of making september 11 a NATIONAL HOLIDAY before making December 7th one.
There is a major difference between accepting the death of a parent (whether by their own hand or a disease) and moving on, and âaccepting and moving onâ when death is caused by an attack launched against people because of their religious beliefs, or the color of their skin.-Right now, yet another group who believe that only their brand of religious belief is acceptable is in the process of murdering those who wonât convert (or kidnapping individuals and beheading them if a ransom is not paid.) Each time a group like this emerges, there are those who hesitate to speak against them or take any action. -Part of that hesitation is based on the belief that if we âmove onâ from the bad actions and quit commemorating those who were lost, we are not letting the bad actions dictate our lives. -But this is NOT like refusing to let the death of a parent or loved on define us. The result of âmoving onâ and not commemorating those lost to terror or war is that is not that the terrorist group fades away. It keeps marching on, until others finally have to rise up and oppose them. -The commemorating of those lost to war and terror is part of what it means to learn from history, least we repeat that historyâŚ
Tim, Iâm genuinely sorry for all the pain youâve endured, and understand the struggle to deal with it, when it happens and over the rest of your life. Iâve seen a lot of loss myself, and sympathize.
No, you and I donât need the reminders. But some people who were too young to understand that day, do need to learn how deeply it struck us all, and how it changed the world.
We learned a lot that day, and I hope that on the 100th anniversary the people of the world will not be asking if it really did happen. Yes, it did happen. We learned to go down the stairs to safety instead of going up, that service dogs are amazing, and first responders are awsome people, but most of all we learned that we need to pull together to keep the nation and the world safe and free even if it costs us our lives.
Good to see that once again the Authors have had the Dick Tracy strip join in memory of those who perished in the 9/11 attack
It reminds too of the subsequent 3,000 mile cross-country walk by one George Martin who by his effort raised $3. Million Dollars for (I believe) â the families of those FIRST RESPONDERS of NY City who perished in that selfless effort. !
That canât help but ALSOremind, of another similar and famous in strip, cross-country walk attempt. One by Gouldâs Morin Plenty (1957) whoâs teenage wife famous for the retort â âCHECK!â would also sadly die by violence !
The occasion was a horrid one for many innocent people who just - âchecked outâ !
What " beats me " - is having met some US Citizens, who claim it was not by terrorists, it was all an â inside â job !
We all remember, mourn, resolve and carry on in our own unique way. There really is no right or wrong when it comes to matters of the magnitude weâre discussing today.
To take a quote from a Tim McGraw country song and tweak it to say how I feel about todayâs DT strip, âI like it, I love it, I want some more 9/11 strips like it!â

Thank you Joe and Mike for the remembrance. Not many strips mentioned it at all, and yours was the only one who showed what we are remembering.
