Hey- She’s gotta get rid of the inventory some kind of way…. – At least, this way she can say that she is so “giving of herself” to others…. – If talk shows were still big in today’s market, Tiffany could have had her own thing going… – I don’t think “sipping” from “tiny cups” makes one "sophisticated"… If anything, I think the only reason someone has to have a tiny cup, is cos of what that stuff’ll do to ya…

It looks like the dorm doesn’t have windows on the second and first floors, at least on this side of the building. That makes it look more like a prison than a college dormitory.

Also, I realize that we saw the “Moony University Dorms 101-200” sign in the August 24 strip, but it would be more realistic if the college could come up with a more interesting name for the building than “Dorms 101-200.” (Yes, there probably are some colleges where the dormitories have names as uninspiring as that, but it’s still not a great name.)

So, did Tiffany get paid for the photo frame gig with merchandise, and now sh’s unloading inventory? That “suite” must look more like the interior of a Warehouse Club than what we’ve seen so far.I can see this “party favor” taking on all the connotations of Charlie Brown ’s ubiquitous Halloween line “I got a rock”.

I’m surprised we’re getting another week of TIffany and Bernice. Nothing wrong with Tiffany and Bernice of course – and they’re going through the moving-on-after-high-school transition along with Luann, but… ? Hopefully Luann, and maybe some of the rest of the gang too, will figure in to this week’s story.

That looks to me more like Greek (or Turkish) coffee than espresso. It will wake you up, however, especially if turbo-charged with a bit of ouzo, as was the custom of some Greek workmen I knew. And, yeah, since she’s sponging off Tiffany, Bern should not be so snarky. At least Tiff is finding a way to get rid of that over-supply of pictures of herself with which she was stuck….

I swear, this really has to be a “Fantasy dorm suite.” No way on earth we’d have gotten something like this. A “suite?” An Espresso Maker? Never happen in my day. We were lucky to keep a small mini-frig in our rooms.

Anyway, hopefully, Bern and TIff will work out some of their differences, etc. Any bets on whether or not they’ll end up rooming together permanently?

Why do I have the feeling that all this is leading up to a big epiphany that (despite help moving from the football team) Tiffany is in her dorm room by herself most of the time… and that she’s lonely?

This suite has absolutely no bed! Fascinating. I guess stupid Piro will have nowhere to pass out except on the floor, after the lame boring G-rated party that has no booze or hook-ups. Prediction: The RA will bust this so-called party. Tiffany needs to finally have a boyfriend.

I have to hand it to Tiffany here, at least she is willing to give something. Bernice is still in the self-involved stage of life where it doesn’t occur to her to think of others. I think giving the pictures of herself is a metaphor for Tiffany’s need to give of herself.

-Luann hasn’t been the star of this strip for ages… she’s very static as a character. She hasn’t grown or changed much over the years and isn’t doing anything all that interesting-If that is the case (and I’m not sure it is, since I’m not as long-time a reader as others who post here), then that must be the intention of Mr. Evans. All the characters in this strip are drawn by that creator, so they can only be what he draws…

-very static as a character-Actually, it seems to me that Tiffany is very static as a character. She has always been very absorbed in perfecting her looks and advancing her career in either modeling or show business, and has assumed that her looks are similarly important to others. (Why else would she assume that giving a picture of herself as a ‘party favor’ would be pleasing?)-And the fact that she plans parties for college age kids as though the party is for much younger kids (giving a party favor isn’t something I remember from college) demonstrates that she has not ‘grown up’, even if she does drink ‘grown up’ coffee…

I’m disappointed that Bernice is still being so passive about all the stuff going on in what is supposed to be her own dorm room. If she doesn’t go for help to the RA, when a passed out guy is found sleeping it off in her dorm room, she’ll be blamed. She needs to quit wasting her time snarking at Tiffany’s predictable party-planning efforts, and get moving on solving her own problems…

I hope Luann gets tied into this story somehow. The last we saw of her, she was being a kid for the last time while celebrating her 18th birthday with her brother. We have seen some new faces, but they are all at Moony U. Luann doesn’t attend Moony, and we have seen little of her at community college. I am eager to see her grow up a bit.

Since the idea of finally allowing the characters to age was to inject some vitality into a strip that was going stale with the some old cast doing the same old things in the same old place, wouldn’t it have been sufficient to follow Luann to Pitt CC and see who she meets and what happens to her there? Instead, we are meeting only Bernice’s dorm mates while re-hashing the same tired “Tiffany is vain” gags that are the very same stale material that this whole “graduation” scenario was meant to escape. Did nothing at all interesting happen to Luann at her junior college?

Even though many follow and worship these persons that love themselves such as the self serving celebrities, there will come a time when reality sets in. At this point they either snap to attention and try to change, or melt away to sadness and seclusion and potential self destructional behavior. Suicide? Pity the people that remain egocentric for they will take it to the grave!

This talk about parents paying for college reminds me of a friend of mine. Her parents were, well, they never should have been parents. When they finally let her leave home and go to college, they gave her virtually no money to live on. Seriously, she couldn’t pay for flu meds on that pitiful allowance. So she dropped out and took off and didn’t speak to her parents for decades. Now she’s got a great job and is doing fine. Providing for your kid is what parents should do. Anyone who thinks otherwise is creepy.

Have any of these people yet gone to a class or lab, written a paper, solved any homework problems, or even opened a book? Maybe Mooney is such a popular school because it has adopted the Pitt HS approach that all that’s required to graduate is simply to show up.

Of course, such plebian restrictions are for students with “rooms”, not “suites”. Mooney’s only requirement is that the room & board check not bounce.

Back in the Really Old Days, when dinosaurs were running around and I was a college student (before the days of personal computers) our restrictions were limited to ’electric typewriters (anyone remember those now?), stereos, hot plates (there were no microwaves then, if I remember correctly) and immersion heaters, fans, space heaters and candles…

I had surmised that we’d get to see everyone’s “new life”, since the strip has grown in characters… rotating between Gunther and Rosa, TJ, Brad and Toni, Shannon, Frank and Nancy, Bern and Tiff, Luann.. it’s sort of the same way that you rotate between the Pattersons in FBOFW, or between Joe and Marcy and his family and both sets of grandparents, plus the brothers and their families and Crunchy and Capt. Ruiz on “Jump Start”.. and the same thing happens in “Archie” (speaking mostly of the main pub), where it’s sometimes leaving Archie out altogether, depending on who’s chosen to write in the issue/series….

Right. They didn’t even bother to list weapons as forbidden; they figured we were going to college so we were probably smart enough to figure that out on our own. Most of the forbidden goodies had to do with the fact that the wiring in those old dorms couldn’t handle such new fangled things as hot plates…

How long before “Daddy” decides a Suite is to expensive?^^That won’t happen, it appears that her Father is her only parent and, he seems to be too busy to really spend any time with her, so, he overcompensates by throwing money her way (TJ’s Father does the same, only, long distance). Besides, any man who would let his 13 yr old daughter use a credit card with a $ 7000 limit (in 1985 money), isn’t going to worry too much about paying her way through a prestigious University.

It’s no more fantasy than Bernice having a living room so big she can throw a party in it.

No less, either. It’s the same thing.

You’re allowed to bring whatever you want.

    No, you’re not!

The list of restricted items, both in my day and present day (my niece is a freshman) is a mile long. Nothing that generates heat or could catch fire is permitted in individual dorm rooms. Perhaps it’s permitted in the Luanniverse, but certainly not IRL.

Tiffany does not have her finger on the pulse of reality. She sits alone in an empty terminal, clutching her make up bag, dreaming of the spotlight, and waiting for the plane that will take her to Fantasy Island. Do not bother her, because she does not wish to be awakened, and Daddy’s money will shield her for life.
