Why shouldn’t he take pride in his ignorance? It’s the American way, after all…

Calvin…there really is something in life better than the next TV show! But, check it out…you might get lucky and find a program on deserts. If not, just find some sand and look up “desert” in an encyclopedia! (I am sure you have a set in your home as your Dad is a professional type of guy). ;)

Sand and a dessicated bird or mouse body should do the trick.

If these plebiscites were the usual “free and open” elections as were practiced in Iron Curtain countries, as I’m surethey were, it’s not fair to say they ‘voted Communism in.’ “Vote for us or we will kill you” is a strong incentive for all butthe very bravest to vote them. The German electorate DID have a choice in 1932 when they voted the Nazis in, and the Austrians were probably largely in favour ofAnschluss [though having the Wehrmacht on their borders, poised to invade if they voted against it very likely increasedthe Ja votes substantially.] Both electorates were egregiouslymisled by Der Fuehrer as to exactly what they were letting themselves in for.

All the Bulgarians, Hungarians, and Romanians I know would disagree violently with your assertion that they voted Communism in. The Red Army was there in case they votedagainst the Communists, assuming that the Communists allowed any non-Communist candidates on the ballot….

Hungary and Romania sent troops to fight against the Russians. Bulgaria did not send troops, since the Russianshad helped them in their wars for independence from theOttoman Empire in the 1870s, but under compulsion didallow the Wehrmacht to use it as a jumping-off point to theEastern Front.

If Calvin’s Dad took the family on a vacation to a desert, the desert would get some rain.

Sand. Rocks. Chunk of green sponge pretending to be hardy desert plant (add a few toothpicks as branches). Done.

He doesn’t know what the desert looks like? Seriously, he’s never seen Roadrunner cartoons?

What’s the difference between ignorance and apathy? I don’t know and I don’t care.

Calvin is so rude. No wonder why I never see him play with anyone but Hobbes. He’s the only one who can tolerate him. Besides his parents, of course.

Calvin knows Suzy, but she’s hardly a friend. Does he have any friends who are boys? *When he’s pictured in other cartoons, he just looks so small, weird, and lonely.
