Gunther: "I miss being home for the holidays, don't you?" Rosa: "No" Gunther: "You're happy here?" Rosa: "No. I didn't come to Peru to answer phones" Gunther: "So... you do want to leave" Rosa: "Gunther, a medical supply van leaves for the mountains next week. Let's be on it!!"

You had a plan to leave and go to Peru. Now, you’ll also need a plan to return! – I see that part of their plan involves taking the “Von Trapp Express” , as well….

Pleading ignorant here, are there dangerous areas of Peru, like portions of Columbia with their drug lords etc?.Hopefully any of that pops into one or the others head, just for a safety precaution..Unless Rosa’s uncle steps in.

Rosa doesn’t miss home…….are we seeing a cold side to the hot young lady? Is Gunther really being caught up in a spider lady’s web? Mind the warning signs, Gunther…..you are not # 1 in Rosa’s plans.

Rosa’s idea of “rural village” might not match the reality of what the clinic sees as rural village ………………………………….…………………………………what Rosa “sees” http://assets.inhabitat.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/2013/07/Peru-village.jpg in her mind…………………………
reality http://robinperu.files.wordpress.com/2011/01/pamparomas-town.jpg or worse for Rosa http://www.southamerica.travel/files/gallery/slider/colpa-lodge.jpg

Too, if her uncle were agreeable to them helping out in the delivery, I would think he would have arranged that to be their job from the get-go. – Or…it could be that the truck just picks up the supplies and delivers them only, and isn’t affiliated with the clinic, itself… that could be an even more perilous predicament if they were to go on it….

If this was a reality based comic then Rosa & Gunther’s ride would stumble across a cocaine lab and we would see a minor AP article about the untimely passing of two American “Aid” workers. Such is life.

< SIIIIIIIIIGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!! >
Rosa’s still running on impulse. At least she cares enough about Gunther to want him “on the team.” But I don’t think she thinks her plans all the way through, and takes all contingencies into account. I concur with the poster that said, “if her uncle wanted them on that delivery van, he’d have arranged it by now.”
And I also agree, Gunther and Rosa aren’t communicating their intentions well either. They need to have a good solid sit-town and talk this out. Then again, this is Luanniverse, so anything can/will happen.

…so long as “medical supply van” isn’t a euphemism for “drug runner” on the way for a pick up…

Most of the temporary aid “volunteer” industry is a scam to soak money from middle class and wealthy kids trying to pad their resumes, and the whole thing is incredibly insulting, especially to nations like Peru that have an advanced, developed infrastructure. Peru has large, industrialized cities, and an educated population. It’s really insulting to think that all they really need is some ignorant American do-gooders showing up to to “rescue” them. “Oh, thank you, American student! Before you showed up, we were totally unable to give vaccines and build houses for our own people! We’re very stupid!”
Chuck374 almost 10 years ago
I see they both have departure on their mind. I think they both have different destinations planned.
Chuck374 almost 10 years ago
Has Rosa even seen her uncle since their arrival? I doubt she would have to stow away on a supply truck if she spoke with him. Perhaps he has no idea of her true desires.
Sisyphos almost 10 years ago
Agree with her vision or not, Rosa is firmly grounded in reality. It is Gunther who is still dealing in fantasy, wanting to go home and “rescue” Mommy from the Big Bad Wolf, Mr. Gray. If Gunther can’t get his head right, this may be the beginning of his separation from Rosa! That would be a double disaster—for him, and for Mrs. Berger….

Rosa is an awful person. Gunther is happy and she is determined to make him miserable. He should tell her to take a hike in the mountains.
morningglory73 Premium Member almost 10 years ago
I see Gunther going home to his mommy and Rose going on to her true reason for her homecoming, being of service in the mountains to the poor and needy.
Meh~tdology, fka Pepelaputr almost 10 years ago
So far as we know, Rosa simply has a Florence Nightingale complex with no provable chops. To this point, she has “improved” the lives of Peruvians by dragging Gunther along to take TWO jobs that could have been done by Peruvians.
kaffekup almost 10 years ago
It’s a little sad that so many commenters can reduce a nation to drug runners and rebel terrorists. Most of the indigenous population is trying to just get by, the same way everybody else is.And I think it’s a great idea to catch a ride on a medical supply truck that is going to do just what they came to do. Why is that “stowing away”?

capricorn9th almost 10 years ago
I predict that Rosa will get in that medical van and Gunther on a plane back home. They simply have different wants and are not compatible. Ideally, love should conquer all but Gunther is missing home, his mother and his friends. Rosa is not attached to anything, even her parents, so it doesn’t take much to assume she is not attached to Gunther either. She thinks it’d be nice to have him at her side but she can go alone and she will. So, just go home, Gunther. There will be another girl – someone who is not so detached and ambitious like Rosa.

he does not want to comeback because of his friends, he partly misses mom but that is not the reason either, the real major reason he wants to return to the Pittsville area is because he is mad that his mom might be going out on dates

Why is Rosa so dead-set on going to a rural village to help people? Lima is a big city, and like all other big cities everywhere, it has a large number of homeless and destitute people who need medical care, right where she is. She could continue working at the clinic during the day and help the city’s poor in the evenings, so both she and her uncle would be satisfied. Gunther too, up to a point.
punslinger almost 10 years ago
YES!!! Let’s go deep into rebel-controlled mountains to treat the poor and have the GOVERNMENT gunning for us! BRILLIANT, Rosa!

Airman almost 10 years ago
I agree, it is painful watching Gunther try to become a man when he jumps to all of Rosa’s commands. All that is missing is a little leash and hearing words like “heel”, sit, stay, down or hearing the little tap of a rolled up newspaper on his butt when he messes up. (For the record, I never hit my dogs when I train them). “Good, Gunther. Good boy”
locake almost 10 years ago
Rosa is completely self-centered and does not care about Gunther’s desires at all. She only wants him to do what she wants. She is selfish, that is what makes her so awful. If she is so smart she would know that her plans would make Gunther miserable. She should go do what she wants to, and leave Gunther alone.

“@IamJayBluE
While she can’t provide actual medical care to people, one of the most important services that volunteers provide in poor areas is translation. Medical workers trying to check on people in Ebola areas, or to provide vaccinations to kids (including polio shots) are in dire need of people who can help win the trust of those they are coming to treat. Someone who can speak the language is a great resource…"
More than translation, they need interpretation. Remember, translation is written; interpretation is oral. If you can do medical interpreting, that is great!
