Mallard Fillmore on the Right, Boondocks on the Left - there are politically slanted comics everywhere. Johnny Hart got so blatantly heavy-handed with his Christian message before he died that I stopped finding the strip funny. I donât read the comics for ideology, I read them for insanity.

Then again, given Mallard and State prolly get plenty of those from their target audience.
ââââââââ
Mostly what they get are a bunch of âdittosâ.
@ Old Wolf - Boondocks hasnât been around since 2006. I wish Fillmore and SOTU would join it.
Amazing how intolerant those who oppose the right are. They talk about being all-inclusive, and yet their vitriol is every bit as spiteful as the invective coming from their adversaries. Again as I quoted from another strip yesterday, I suppose it is easier for them to see the mote in someone elseâs eye than the beam in their own.
And to suppose that the liberally slanted comics donât âconveniently omit opposing pointsâ is so laughable as to be the funniest thing about this whole thread.
Ideologues from either side do nothing but create the political atmosphere we see today. Thereâs only one real way to deal with todayâs issues. Get new blood in Congress from both sides.
We tried term limits in California. Just ended up with the timed out pols being appointed until they could run again because politicians protect each other.
I wouldnât mind Mallard Fillmoreâs politics if the strip had the smallest particle of wit. Why is it that right wingers have such fractured senses of humor?
MisngNOLA: I donât dislike Mallard Fillmore because itâs conservative. I dislike it because itâs unfunny as hell.
I personally think P.J. OâRourke, for example, is one of the funniest people alive. âPrickly Cityâ has brought a smile to my face more than once. One of the funniest comic strips in all of history, âLiâl Abner,â had an almost fascist right-wing bent to it.
..if you are the NEW right wing-tea bagger..you would understand Mr.Right Wing Duckâs humour..they like it mean spirited, and not making any sense at all..hurting people for no reason other than getting their way is very humourous to themâŚhavenât you ever seen Sarah Palinâs smile when she lets go of one of her zingers???
I agree with yyyguy Re: âit seems to me that an unfunny comic strip would be just a âstrip.ââ
Whenever I refer to SOTU - I always call it a âstripâ. Glad to see Iâm not the only one to differentiate whatâs funny and whatâs NâšT! Todayâs SOTU wasnât updated - making the whole strip âDittoâ!
BTW I Love this comic strip - especially when the characterâs eyes (âşâş) bug out !:-))
Oh, and I agree with Pab - Mallard Fillmore just isnât funny, except on vary rare occasions. Prickly City comes from largely the same point of view, but itâs as consistently funny as most of the strips youâll find on the comics page.
Pabâs comment that he picked out âMallard Fillmoreâ because itâs unfunny and not because it is conservative sounds sincere on the surface.
But then I question why, when he has scores of unfunny strips to chose from, he just happened to pick one with a conservative point. Coincidence? Maybe, but thatâs not how Iâd bet my money. Perhaps Pab could look more deeply into his motive.
(BTW, I am NOT a conservative! For example, I am strongly pro womenâs choice on abortion, I favor nearly open borders and amnesty for otherwise non-criminal illegals, and I am too often embarrassed by Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, even when they agree with me. But neither am I a liberal except insofar as the word outside the U.S. still refers to an advocate of freedom. And no, Iâm not a Libertarian either, for good reasons I wonât go into now.)
pschearer: Because I got tired of referring to âGarfield,â âGasoline Alley,â âCathy,â and âZiggy.â I could have plugged in any of those, but have made fun of them much more often than I have MF. Just wanted to mix it up.
Pab, my comment wasnât directed toward your comic which I found to be very funny. It was to those who are such ideologues that they canât see that what they complain about is the exact same thing they are guilty of from the other side of the fence. I agree with you on MF and I donât even read it any more for the very reason you state. Itâs not funny, and itâs not entertaining nor thought-provoking, imho.
Spyder, Iâm basically talking term limits for Federal Government elected types. The balance of powers between the executive, legislative and judicial branches is skewed because only one branch thereof is constrained by such limits.

Formula for a Mallard Fillmore strip:
1st panel - repeat a wingnut talking point;
2nd panel - elaborate on the wingnut talking point;
3rd panel - make an insulting remark about a liberal and pass it off as a punch line.
On the other hand, State of the Union makes M.F. look good.

To be honest, I didnât really laugh all that loud, but I think Her Maj should get points for âAmens.â
Then again, given Mallard and State prolly get plenty of those from their target audience.

it is so easy to make a point promoting your cause, as fillmore does, by conveniently omitting opposing points.
the protest signs that were omitted from the teaparty sign strip in todayâs fillmore are the ones that are considered hate signs:
âwe came unarmed, THIS timeâ
âWarning: If Brown canât stop it, a Browning can,â
and the sign showing people murdered by the nazis , stating that this is the result of the new health care bill
letâs not forget the verbal abuse(and spit) hurled at black members of congress just before the health care vote (n words galore)

There are certain people that think vicious spewing is the only valid form of humor.
They are convinced that valid anger towards conservative ideology is mere sour grapes.
They love that mallard.
MF is a severely damaged personality. (actually his creator)
He needs to be confined in an institution.
Unfortunately he already is committed to the Right Wing of the Republican Party, that endless enabler of selfish idiocy.
Thanks Pab. Itâs about time someone challenged that very unfunny comic.

Term limits now. Restore the balance of powers.
