I know this may not be a popular thing to say, but wanting to marry the man you love, and raise a family with him, has been kinda the natural order of things for most of human history. Luann, if I am reading this correctly, is following her true passion, and it is no small thing.

So this teaching assugnment might be the start of a great professional life for Luann, as an individual or as a couple. However the trip to NY could catapult Luann into adulthood. And if Luann does not go – certainly there’s a greater risk that someone would get their claws into Quill and he stays there with a new GF.

I’m thinking there’ll be a new arc tomorrow. Haven’t seen Crystal for a while – a good character…

I actually feel bad that it’s stated here that Luann doesn’t share Quill’s passion for the theatre. She has a natural talent for set design and possibly acting – I wish we could have seen her go to NY and perhaps chance into opportunities of her own to learn more about the craft. Early childhood education is a laudable (if majorly underpaid) career but it’s also the “sensible” and no doubt expected choice for Luann to look after kids in her home town over the summer. I’d like to see our main characters see a bit of the world (without panicking like Gunther) and experience life beyond Pitts.

Re: Domestic choice. I know a number of admirable housewives, and consider that a valid choice. But I reacted to people treating it as the ONLY choice, and claiming that Luann was not in love unless she jettison everything for a few extra hours with Quill in New York. Besides, even if housewife is your plan A, you still have to consider that men can become disabled, temporarily or permanently, and need a mate capable of taking over in a pinch, also that men sometimes die young, and sadly that some men leave. You still need back-up skills.

RE: Quill’s “stock”. I read the comment about convicts not as a put-down of Australians, but as a put-down of eugenics, which has destroyed uncountable lives, including but not limited to six million Jews, Gypsies, and Slavs in the Holocaust, not to mention the majority of the indigenous Americans from which I spring.

I see today the pants color has been fixed. It was, as you noted, brown when this strip was first posted last night.

“He’s about as interesting as watching paint dry.”*LC – Yeah, a ROLE model. He is smart, centered, good natured, somewhat adventurous, faithrful, funny, compassionate, motivated. He would appear to make a wonderful husband and father.*And no, I’m not jealous of Luann. (not much)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with knowing young that you’ve found your partner for life. I was 17 when I married my high school sweetheart. We’ve been married for 36 years. It didn’t stop me from pursuing my goals or being my own person. Good golly, Luann made the “mature” decision and Quill supported her, and there is still criticism. It would have been ok if she’d gone the other way. She’s still young and it’s ok to not always make the right decision. There are more regrets for the things you don’t do or let go by than for the less sensible things you do.

So yahoo news pretty much messed up in their comics section and posted what’s gonna happen in the next five strips… It’s already down, but one of the errors is still in there (third strip down).

I thought theater was her passion??? At least it was last year, the whole acting and singing thing…She was turned down for one camp, and she chucked the whole thing? Acting is nothing but steeling yourself for rejection and persevering…teaching is fine if that’s your passion but this is a bit inconsistent.

Most of the best marriages in “Hollywood” are not between two actors.

I think Quill is great. He is interesting, intelligent, nice, funny, motivated, attractive and a good friend. He is the best male character in the strip. Better than T.J., Ox, Brad, Frank, Gunther, Mr. Gray, Knute , Mr. Fogarty, Dirk or Leslie Knox.

The second best male character after Quill would be Frank. He is boring but solid and dependable.

Interesting that someone else providing a SPOILER notice was only commenting on the fact that Luann recognized that the teaching job was a means of earning money. Apparently, that commenter believes that all who are passionate about something would be thrilled to do it for no salary, and live on the street…
