Good morning, DT fans!Great art, there! Dick Tracy’s frontal is superb!Ted, worry about your house, never mind the boat! But the gold? In the whirlpool as well? Or someone snatched it?
Well, this saves the Blackhearts the expense of having Jimmy killed for robbing the bookie joints he ran for them. Now I wonder, if the upcoming “Fall Of The Blackhearts” story will somehow revolve around the stolen gold?
Considering old Abner somehow managed to survive a dunk in concrete…….maybe Jimmy will show up at the end of the river that’s below that whirlpool. Stranger things have happened.
“I think in many ways the present version of Dick Tracy has been the best ever. I know that sounds wrong, but that is just my opinion.”CERTAINLY not to take anything away from the current team, will agree with you with the exception of the fact that Chester Gould started it all, Collians, Killian, etc. and even the much-maligned Locher continued it on..If not for all of them, our Team Tracy would not have been able to keep this strip afloat (Sorry, Jimmy Choo Shooz!) for so very long!.It has been a collaberative effort between a talented group of people who (for the most part), never knew each other!
On second thought, Jimmy might be dangling on the ladder. It was within reach yesterday and he could have jumped for it. Tracy and Tellum are talking about the boat. I would have believed it if the pilor was the one who said that they failed to save Jimmy. Sam might not have the vantage point to see everything that is happening below.

I would have believed it if the pilor was the one who said that they failed to save Jimmy. Sam might not have the vantage point to see everything that is happening below.
Tellum is in shock, or close to it. Sam is alarmed and disappointed. Tracy is grim and fatalistic. Jimmy is flotsam at best, more likely dead fish dead….No one (in our presence) has seen the gold since the robbery. Will anyone see it again (in our presence)?Might as well find a safe place to land the chopper, Breezy.
Your opinion isn’t unusual or wrong. If you look at how Batman has evolved since the days when his creator, Bob Kane, drew the character, you could basically say the same thing.
Well, this will go down in the papers as a failure for the Police Department…They lost the Gold, they lost the Suspect (again) AND Ted’s boat. So I’m sure Wendy Wichell and the rest of the media will have a field day with this one.
Glub! Glub! Glub!Cried the drowning tubYet nobody could hear. The gold was goneNow suddenlyHe’d lost something more dear.So long, JimmyFare thee wellSmoked your last cigar.Someone grabbed your stash of goldLeft not a single bar.
Okay, I’ll admit it, even if no one else will. I really wanted to see Jimmy bobbing in the water, swirling around the center of the whirlpool, the boat behind him, even if it was for just one panel. It would have given us the satisfaction of knowing that when Sam said Jimmy’s gone, we’d know he was indeed gone.Besides, this has to be one of the most creative finishes ever to befall a Tracy villain.
Good morning Tracy fans and the ‘Legal Sage’ Gweedo. Is Jimmy really gone as has been suggested or will he reappear in the near future? Who has the gold?_______@Pequod: another masterpiece!_______Have a prosperous day my friends.
Tracy’s villains have a habit of turning up alive after “curtain” deaths. Jimmy was sucked into the mine below the lake and easily could have bobbed up like a fishing float under ground in the lake below the lake.
Gould did have a sort of “frontal view” of Tracy which he used rather frequently. I’ve just been looking at some of his 1950s stories, and trying to see how his view differs from Joe Staton’s. For one thing, it is slightly less complex – a little more “cartoony”, if you will. And, while it is a front view, it usually only shows one ear, so it’s off to the side just a little. I think Joe makes more use of shading, around the nose, for example. It is very interesting to see how a character evolves over time. Back in the 1970s, a magazine called Comics Buyers’ Guide ran a full tabloid size page, showing Dick Tracy all the way from the first drawings in the 1930s until the date of publication in the 1970s. Tracy was always Tracy, but his 1930s self didn’t look anything like his 1970s self. And yet, day to day, no one really noticed any big change.
A grim expression, on Mr. Tracy. But, you could tell, he wasn’t happy with the loss of life. I seem to remember a 1970s strip, of how painful it was to Tracy to be forced to take a life. That was one of the turning points, of my deepest respect to the character.
The Mole will find the gold in his under ground system once the whirl pool winds down. Will try to turn it in, but Tracy will let him slide as statute of limitations has passed !!
Why should it be considered wrong? Is liking the current team better than Gould some kind of disloyalty or something? It’s okay for a student to surpass his/her master. If you want to believe that Team Tracy does a better strip than its creator, why not? I personally like Leonard Starr’s Annie better than Harold Gray’s. Does that make me a bad person? And, for the record, I think Team Tracy’s Annie was better than Gray’s as well.
I think the present team is doing Chester Gould proud.
I absolutely agree and I think the current Dick Tracy is the best it’s ever been. As Isaac Newton said, you can see farther by standing on the shoulders of giants. Gould gave this strip a very solid foundation and the present team is doing their best to extend his legacy and succeeding admirably in my opinion.
Perhaps at the same station that broadcasts “The Sounds of Plenty”?
I think Ted is kind of the pro-big-business type and would likely clash with the “down home” farmer types that hang out at that station, but it could be interesting if that’s what he ends up doing.

Another great frontal view of Tracy (3rd panel). Gould seldom used that with his star character.
