Brad: "Dad, I'm going to teach you the fireman's routine, ok?"
Dad: "Bring it!"
Brad: "We'll start with free weights. You take the bar-"
Dad: "Let's see"
Dad: "Psh. Easy! How many reps do I do?"
Brad: "Wanna add any weight, or...?"
“Bar None”“Air, Apparent(ly)”“Novice In Blunderland”“What Are You Weighting For?”“Tripping The Light Is Fantastic!”“Easy, Breezy”“Bar Tender”“Cos Weightng Up Is Hard To Do” (♫)“A Bad Reputation”“A Not- So- Weighty Responsibility”“Gimme A Workout… And Hold The Workout”“Mud, No Sweat…And More Beers”or“What’s The Hold-up?”
Although it is true that you begin with a lower weight, you are going to feel pretty foolish only using the bar with no weights at all. Frank is in for a BIG surprise.
honestly, for many people it’s just getting the motivation of doing it, and when you’ve got someone to work with, that’s easier… who knows, maybe this is the humble beginning of a new frank
Starting out easy is the key. Then gradual increasing makes it possible to reach an effective weight lifting routine. Sorta like the farmer who carried a newborn calf under each arm. He did this every day for 2 years. By that time he was carrying a full grown cow under each arm.
““Frank! Frank … !!! You’re supposed to be watching the weights!!! FRANK???”.I used to have the same problem.Slaves to our biochemistry.Didn’t even help when I reminded myself they got cooties.
3 Sadly for me, this arc is taking the “dopey Dad” stereotype and making it even more extreme. I hope Frank is actually joking and not serious. Anyone his age would have at least a basic working knowledge of the equipment and its function… at least from seeing it on television if nothing else. I guess I may be an old grouch, but I have grown very tired of the “dopey Dad” stereotype that pervades nearly all portrayals of Dads in the media today.
Most gyms seem to have a bunch of weight bars lying around with the weights already attached..Last time I spent time in one, I was actually an Employee and was responsible for picking them all up from where ever they’d been left by the patrons and putting everything back in the Racks..
I was going to go for something similar to “Raising The Bar”, but I was trying to find a good segue for a “lawyer-ish spin”. It only kept coming up “shot glasses” for me, though…

Poor Frank is going to be so sorry in the morning. He had next-day regrets at age 20, too, but the night before was worth it then.

Sigh . . . only 37 comments so far. To tell the truth, I miss ReallyBad and the heated controversies he creates with his quirky views :P
