Quite the opposite. With a wave like that, there has to be a God.

Bizarro for October 4th has essentially the same gag, with a bunch of younger Israelites surfing the sides of the parted sea, while Moses tells them to settle down.Of course, with the long lead times that most strips use, Dan Piraro and Wiley probably just came up with the same thing separately.

It’s interesting that the people think the Charlton Heston version of parting of the red sea is as described in the bible

I believe in Superman. There is about the same amount of evidence, but Superman might actually be able to help people.

Of course Moses and Co. crossed the part of the Red Sea well-known for it’s rapidly receding and advancing tides, thus explaining this “miracle.”

Oh, I see now; it was told orally for a few thousand years, then written in Hebrew, which was translated into Greek, which was translated into Latin, then a group of priests working for Emperor Constantin decided which parts they wanted to use, then the Latin was translated into English – so it must be true, despite being, in fact, impossible. Sure – makes perfect sense…………..

I forgot to point out that only in English can you get a mix up of the words “red” and “reed”.

Since nobody can really know the origins of the universe that question will remain open to any argument anyone wants to make. The human mind cannot comprehend nothingness or infinity. But the idea of a “loving God” who takes a hand in the daily affairs of humans is so utterly insane and bizarre that it must be attributed to wishful thinking and fantasy. Nothing wrong with those human traits which we all engage in at times, but as we see in the current crop of fundamentalist crazies running around, it is dangerous to lose the distinction between fantasy and reality (such as blowing up a bus full of people will lead to a heavenly reward, or you can beat the sins out of your grown child or God [a/k/a the voices in your head] has told you to run for President, etc. etc. etc. ad nauseum).

John 9, the entire chapter, is an excellent story. Jesus basically endorses agnosticism in v. 41. Speaking to the religious leaders, he says, “If you were blind you would have no sin; but because you say, ‘we see,’ your sin remains.”

How about this? The modern Bible that many western religions refer to, even if it’s just the Old Testament, is a condensed mish-mosh of stories where many of the origins are lost in antiquity. Factual truth (data) is scarce and often exaggerated or minimized. However, there is a truth to be found there: Love God (Nature, creation, the Universe, whatever) and love your Neighbor. The rest is just commentary. This has been said before. If you need a “God” to be good, you failed the test.

“Also Job 38 . . . pretty much that whole chapter, but I just love the question God puts to Job in verses 2 and 4: “Who is this who is obscuring my counsel And speaking without knowledge? Where were you when I founded the earth? Tell me, if you think you understand.” Enough said.”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Not nearly enough said. The question uppermost in my mind is why GOD stopped talking one-on-one?I’m sure you’ll find a quote in the bible for that, if you look hard enough. The only other question I can’t find an answer to: Who potty-trained GOD?

“However now it is a detriment. And Earth for us is in crisis because of our destructive wasteful ways. Now we as a species have a choice. Unfortunately we are not yet mature enough to stop the on going destruction and alteration of our ecosphere into something less positive for us and all other Earth life.”~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Everything you say is,without a doubt, absolutely true. And absolutely terrifying that very few of us don’t acknowledge or even care about it.

Enough said.Enough said about what? About people taking myths literally? If I quoted the Koran or the Bhagavad Gita, and ended with “enough said,” would that mean you believed it? No? And your magic book is better than their magic books how?
