Transcript:
Janis: It's just that we go out less and less, it seems.
Arlo: We've talked about this!
Arlo: If we don't go out, it's because we don't want to go out!
Janis: I know...
Janis: But I still want to want to!
Well, I’m one on those a-little-past-middle-aged women, and I understand what she means. Haven’t you ever thought “I’d love to learn French” and then gotten into it and decided you really didn’t like it? You want to want t, but you don’t.
Admit to yourself that it is more fun to stay at home & relax than it is to be on the go all of the time. And, a good night’s sleep becomes a high priority! Just enjoy the time, & if you want to go out, go out!
It’s time like those in which you choose to become or not become OLD. Such efforts will stand you in good stead when you’re determined not to end up shuffling around in old people clothes, stooped over, with your mouth open.
After a lifetime of work, we have a home that’s warm in winter, cool in summer, fireplace for ambiance, remodeled kitchen & baths, hi def flat screens and a pool. Where else would we want to go?
I know what Janis means. I can remember doing things when I was younger… and enjoying them. Then I will think, “Why not go out and do them now?” So I will go out and do those things, and not enjoy them at all. Things like, going to the beach, hiking, etc. All things I used to enjoy… and I want to be able to enjoy them again.
Before all her medical problems surfaced in the last few years, I used to tell my wife the same thing about having sex. She never get to the point of wanting it, and barely reached the point of wanting to want it.
I don’t think you have to be middle-age or a woman to understand this. I still want to want to go to parties, but as soon as I find myself at a party, I want to go home. It’s just not as fun as when you’re in your late teens, early 20’s, and everything is awesome with no limits. The people are dull, the conversation is dull, nobody is up to get wild and crazy: too much work, too much risk, and too much recovery time needed.
I UNDERSTAND all of what most of you are saying! I am 61, mostly feel like I never aged, though I know I have! Heck, as I type this I am listening to some of my old favorite DISCO tunes, Earth, Wind and Fire, the Bee Gees, etc. I want to do things, heck I wanted SO BADLY to go see MAROON FIVE in concert at Hershey Center, but until I got around to checking into the tickets, THEY WERE SOLD OUT!
God willin’ and the creek don’t rise, I WILL SEE PEYTON MANNING play the Steelers, thanks to my son, who bought us all tickets for the December game as my BD and Christmas present. One thing off my Bucket List. :-D

Wanting to want to do something instead of doing something is a waste of time.

Did I miss the arc where Arlo retired? It’s been ages since he’s even mentioned his job.

I’d rather be at home with a cat on my lap with a good book and a glass of wine. Hubby too! I don’t need or want to be anywhere else. Except work.

Understanding a woman of ANY age requires a man to give her half the attention that he spends on a sports event.
And that ain’t gonna happen, so give it up guys — and man up and accept your part in this…
