It’s nice that Nancy is at least a bit concerned about possible impacts on her own daughter. Frank? Not so much…

My feeling that Prudence is not a normal girl like everyone thinks she is, is getting enhanced every day.

I sense…a disturbance in the force. I just hope that Prudence is not as attractive as Luann or else..there will be..trouble.

No wonder Nancy always looks so youthful…she uses “Greg” ™ brand mosturizing lotion (panel 3). "Greg"™ brand moisturiing lotion has 7 different types of…uh, some whatchamacallits, I think… that help to do that thing that it does. Plus, it ‘s popular with 4 out of 5 doctos, who said: "What’s that?"…thus proving that they had nothing bad to say about it… – On the other hand, Frank said his side of the bed was “too hard” for him, so they must be using the “Goldilocks” ® adjustable bed. It can get downright cold, it can be a hard night’s sleep (must be Frank’s favorite setting), and even comes with a remote that just happens to look exactly like the one to your TV…

But no decision was made…

I keep hoping that Luann will rescue herself from this undesirable situation. She’ll get a text from the principal she works for, inviting her to accompany a group of kids and their parents to a special art camp in Taos, New Mexico, and she’ll decide to celebrate her first Thanksgiving with people who actually seem interested in her…

Prudence will be interested in Luann, not Quill.

BETTER QUESTION…WHY ARE WE STILL ON THIS ARC?!!

I actually hope you’re right, but I’m not much of an optimist. Since this arc has been continued, it would seem that we’re in for conflict, not compatibility…

Charging for the room is weird for all the readers. They, or team Evans, should really figure that out!

It would still be preferable for Luann to just move on. Having her happiness still depend on the attention of someone who is absorbed in something else is disappointing…

For sure the rent should be free. She is good for their business. And most certainly Pru and Luann will become best friends.

Perhaps they are setting up for Pru to stay at Gunther’s. Then, if she is older, she may have had “history” with Mr. Gray.

A thought suddenly occurred to me. If Prudence is actually older as some of us have speculated, maybe it will be Nancy who has a reason to be concerned.

(1) Don’t charge Prudence rent since she’s putting on a show at your venue. (2) Luann is a grown woman and should be upfront with Quill about her concerns.

Well, I see they have been reading the comments…it makes no sense to rent that room….no one in their right mind would rent to someone who is donating all their talent and time to THEIR project….but they are trying to justify it in a very lame way

I’m going to throw this out there again: has anyone actually read the script for this alleged play? All we have is Quills word that it even exists. Did anyone ask what the title is? Manson Family Christmas perhaps? Or Frosty the Crackhead?

I think the “weirder to not charge rent” refers to the effect on Luann. That is, they would be coddling a potential rival for Quill’s affection.

I just realized how much Brad and his dad look like each other

Here’s a possibility that harkens back to Dez’s Destiny Deck comment about “Prudence will be the decisive factor”: Pru and Quill ARE just good pals- but Luann’s insecurities cause her to act jealous and untrusting of Quill, and demanding of Quill (interfering with the production of the show, etc)- up to and including an ultimatum. Due to her negative actions, Quill breaks up with her.

And it’ll turn out that Pru is more interested in Gunther (who’ll be hired to do costumes)… which causes friction between her and Tiffany…

Seems like the gocomics commenters here put a lot more thought into the story arcs than the Evanses do.

A lot is going to hinge on what Prudence looks like: We’re being set up to expect a total babe, but my guess is that she’ll be plain as a board fence—but full of personality. So maybe she and Luann will bond. Unless Pru is gay (she’s in the Theatah, after all); then Luann is in more trouble than she’d dreamed of. I can’t wait. So grab some zzzs while you can, Frank. it’s about to be Showtime!

I am voting for Prudence to be a young but plain woman who is immensely talented, a brilliant conversationalist and too mature for Quill, Luann or the DeGroots, for that matter.

Frank is right— sleep at night, make decisions in the morning. So why do problems occupy our thoughts while we try to sleep, and why do the brilliant solutions come as we nod off?

I don’t see how charging for the room would make any difference at all to Luann. She will be uncomfortable around Prudence either way.

Frank has just said that they SHOULD charge, and then he abandoned the conversation because it’s too hard. No, there’s no crow whatsoever today.

I’m saying Prudence is an older woman, maybe around her Mom’s age. That would make it more interesting.

Thanks for this flashback. I wasn’t following ‘Luann’ then, so this is all new to me. And it sure seems as if Luann’s parents didn’t find it so ‘hard’ to figure out what to do about her worries back then…

Implausable…. I too thought it really odd that the DeGroot parental units felt it was as you said, " “even weirder” if they don’t take Prudence’s money for flying in from NY on her own dime, using her script, and working for free. "So, so strangely odd how this renting out a room to a person giving them a substantially more significant gift in the form of their work…. for free. I REALLY am at a loss as to how this idea can be thought of as logical. Frank was right that they should not charge… but Nancy’s small statement afterwards has him reconsidering the rent idea again. It is SO, SO, ODD.

I know you and two or three others seemingly hate Implausible and Seismic-2, but in reality, I would suspect many who comment here find their ideas interesting and thought provoking even if they disagree with them. I know I find their comments interesting. I am among the several here who do find it VERY odd that the DeGroots even consider charging this Prudence rent. Frank logically, IMO makes a statement about it not being right to charge Prudence rent….. but in the next breath…. he backtracks and then asks/semi-agrees with the idea that he “should charge rent”. To me, what feels so very odd about this rent aspect of the story is that it seems unnatural. To me, it would seem obvious to not charge rent, unless you were a “gold-digger” of sorts…. and Frank & Nancy have never been that way. So, their hemming and hawing about this seems rather artificial.

The whole punctuation thing reminds me of a joke: One day a man came up to a barber shop that had a sign that read “WHAT DO YOU THINK WE’RE GIVING FREE HAIRCUTS”. He came in, and asked for a free haircut. The barber, a grouchy fellow, blustered “It clearly says ‘What? Do you think we’re giving away free haircuts?!”

But….she volunteered. She didn’t offer herself for hire!

I still Luann and Prudence will become an item; changing the entire theme of this strip “like an asteroid hitting the planet”

Pay for a motel room, or arrange for her to stay at Gunther’s with her friend Quill.

It’s only Monday and I’m already tired of this arc.

By Saturday the odds are that we will not know any more than we do today.

With all this talk of “uneasiness” when it comes to Luann and her skeptical estimation of the communications between Prudence and Quill, and the uneasiness of her being in the DeGroot house, you would think that this Prudence would be someone akin to Dirk- but with the “schmoozing and manipulating power” of Ann Eiffel, and the “popularity power” of Tiffany… and maybe the “ability” to pull some strings like Elwood…and maybe throw in some Phelps and Fogarty, somewhere, I guess… - Oh, and the stiff neck like Ms. Manezone Mannicotti, and the “hipness” of Zebo Zamboni…

But what if when she comes, all of a sudden, Luann has a completely different experience with her, and then does a whole complete turnaround, and she begins to proclaim the opposite of what she’s doing, now?

And with all this talk of punctuation and other signals, did anyone notice the words in italic in Frank’s balloon, in the middle panel?

Is Ms. Prudie coming from New York or Tokyo? Get her in there or go back to Gunther and Tiffany making out in her dorm room. Ahh, the excitement of young, unexpected romance.

I predict that Prudence will somehow be “unavailable” to Quill. She’ll be much older, or married, or a lesbian, or something.
