They got Ivanov’s name spelled right this time. (Last time it said “Ivanon” if you remember, plus there was the “jugmaker” that should have been a “jugmarker.”)

Our hero did a pretty quick switch of ties between panels one and three. Either that, or he became another victim of outsourced coloring.

About the man in the background in the third panel:

He is sufficiently generic that he could be one of several characters (Archie Goodwin as mentioned, Sam Spade, Philip Marlowe, Steve Carella, etc.), but I prefer to think that he is Mike Hammer, included as a tribute to Max Allan Collins (long-time writer of “Dick Tracy,” and now author of the Hammer novels).

How about that guy on the third panel being David Boreanz, either as Angel (from the Angel Detective Agency for the Buffy-spinoff “Angel”) or FBI Agent Seeley Booth (from "“Bones”)?

Too bad it wasn’t Chang Apana in that panel, but he might not be part of Tracy’s real world. He could be fictional there.

No, Chang Apana was mentioned as a real person in the storyline that introduced Doubleup.

RE: Tracy’s tie. The Go Comics colorist had no choice, because, for some reason, the original B&W had a solid black in panel 3. (See, for example, Houston Chronicle)

The short guy at Tracy’s elbow yesterday was Mike Mauser, the chain-smoking private eye in Charleton Comics’ classic, E-Man, which was, of course, drawn by Joe Staton.(I had a picture of Mike Mauser, but couldn’t post it, so anyone curious enough to post one, be my guest.)

Could that familiar face Tracy sees be Fearless Fosdick?Okay, little-to-no chance, but Fosdick would certainly be a familiar face!

I found the drawing of Mauser on someone’s blog, so I can’t take any credit except finding it. I picked that one because it shows his hair well.

I’m biting my typing tongue not to mention the name of Detective Four, mentioned by Mike over on that social networking site, but I shall resist. We’ll see all soon enough here. When I am suited up for business occasions, I often wear black-and-red striped ties; it’s easy enough under some lighting conditions for the red to not stand out but to “bleed” into the black….

Shelley informs me that she doesn’t know who they are, she just inked what Joe had drawn.

I was aware that Joe done it, just thought it looked fab, stubble and all !

I knew you knew I didn’t draw it. Just wanted to let you know I didn’t take the picture either. I love the drawing!

I think panel 3 is Mike Hammer. And panel 1 might be Judge Dee rather than Charlie Chan, the mustache looks wrong for Chan. :)
