NANCY: I…I feel faint…the whole world is spinning.
NICK: Why that’s lucky for us, Nancy, if it were flat, all the Chinese would fall off.

" Do you know like we were saying, about the earth revolving? It’s like when you’re a kid, the first time they tell you that the world is turning and you just can’t quite believe it ‘cause everything looks like it’s standing still. I can feel it… the turn of the earth. The ground beneath our feet is spinning at a thousand miles an hour. The entire planet is hurtling around the sun at sixty seven thousand miles an hour. And I can feel it. We’re falling through space, you and me, clinging to the skin of this tiny little world. And if we let go…
That’s who I am."

There’s nothing on the bottom. How could there be? It would fall off. The road goes on forever, and the party never ends.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>Anybody ever dig a hole, as a kid, in hopes of reaching China, if you dug deep enough ?

Mine says “Walmart”, a synonym for China.

Silly. Everyone knows the world is a disc resting on the back of 4 elephant standing on the back of the Giant Star Turtle, the Great A’Tuin. Sir Terry Pratchett told me, so it must be true!

Now wait, someone is putting us on. Danae is really no dummy; and was not born yesterday. That trick with the dinner plate, cute, yet telling us about today’s current dilemma. Such as a follower of some blowhard seeking political office. Mimicking a ‘no-nothing’ or arguing from an absurd position.

if people want to believe the world is flat than i want to still believe that the earth is the center of the universe and every thing revolves around it

But what does the Bible say? I can’t believe the earth is flat, spherical or hyperspacial unless the Bible says it.

@Wiley MillerWow, apparently I asked and received! Thanks for the cameo appearance by Kate. (Now, if only she were a recurring character, sigh……..)

dflakThere are some passages using the metaphor of “four corners of the earth”, but I have never found a literalist who could tell me whether is was a flat quadrilateral or a tetrahedron, the only two shapes meeting the definition.

We’ve (well, you’ve) all missed the most obvious error — a dinner plate isn’t flat at all — it’s concave. If dinner plates were flat, then peas would roll off and gravy would flow over the edge, running the tablecloth thereby causing severe embarrassment and eventual revocation of dining room privileges and deportation to the kids’ table.

Bruno ZeigertsNope. Take your longitude and latitude and find the opposite coordinates. For the contiguous US, it will be the Indian Ocean west of Australia. My geology professor pointed out that there are aquifers at various depths throughout the mantle. “Drill deep enough and you will strike water.” He didn’t like my “Yeah, the Indian Ocean.”
