Something else had been burning for a few minutes before Doc Chase escaped. Either it was another BuddiBomb (we only know of 11 of Holly’s Buddi’s going off; number 12 may have been an accident), or the NDCC guys spray and pray with their napalm rifles and are better at praying than they are spraying.
It looks like Apex’s misdeeds are about to be made to light. First, was the destructive removal of any evidence of mutations. Second, a violent resistance to legal authority, as evidence in the cold hearted killing of the local police officers. Third, the elimination of all possible witnesses. The last is impossible to achieve. There is always a chance of there being a witness that was not discovered. And in this case, one of the witnesses that was to be eliminated escaped even though severely injured.
The proverbial manure spreader has just kicked it into a higher gear that’s just under warp speed. This explosion provides the perfect opportunity for Doc Chase to find and recover Holly (as well as Wally, Kirbee, Chick, & Irving) then make good their escape. It also looks like Disease Control may have more on their hands with that second explosion.
I kind of hope Holly is hiding in Doc Chase’s car, but she may have just taken it on the lamb, and may be several blocks away when the shooting started. That could set up a touching reunion with Doc later, but only time will tell. I still suspect Doc knows where there may be a few refugees. So maybe she will call him, and he will give her advice or directions. Does Doc’s car have a license plate, or maybe a number like airplanes have? If so, he would be watched. Plus, the cameras identified Holly fleeing Ethel’s house, and probably fleeing her own house, so somebody may already be looking for her known associates, and will be looking for Doc. Panel 1, I am trying to guess if there was another Buddibomb blast, or if explosives just rocked the former residence of Lyn and Holly. Babyfish may be gone. I don’t think Holly will have a chance to lose the baby at the casino. Panel 4: Is that George Noory and Miss Betty Bowers running for their lives?
The infection of this sector has begun….buddibombs are detecting more……“BAD”……..Doc will get out before the entry is shut. His only hope may be to mutate depending on how bad he is hit…….remember it cures any injury or sickness…..like Holly’s cheese intolerance and Sarah’s cancer. He will be identified as an APEX hostile……his only hope is to flee Niederland.Look for the Underground. Doc may know about some things.
Just a couple seconds ago, I found myself amused by the closeness of the name “Buddy” [in Buddibombs] with the name “Holly.” Maybe you’ve heard of him.
You know, based on a couple things that Aaron said, I’m not sure that Apex and/or the NDCC are responsible for the mutagen. The fact that the Topsiders still don’t know what causes the mutations implies that maybe Apex NEVER knew. This may explain the NDCC technique of “burn everything”.

How much you want to bet Holly’s in the back seat? ;-)

Large structure fire in what amounts to a residential parking garage – not good.

Or the Philadelphia PD and MOVE in the 80s. Nothing like razing an entire neighborhood to the ground.

I can’t remember, but aren’t buddy bombs a product of Apex?

Looks like the apocalypse is now…well, “then,” ‘cause, in theory, it’s all still a flashback and a performance…

At first I wondered if it was the end but it looks more like another family is regretting its purchase of Buddibombs. “Who’s your buddy.?” indeed.

If you’re worried about Holly, in panel 2, at the bottom, that’s not a tentacle from a Buddibomb, that’s Holly’s tail. She’s found a ride.

For a moment, the guy in the first panel looked like Arthur from The Tick.
