Hey! Hey! Donā€™t knock Percy Faith, Mancini, or Mantovani. They are all great.

Just because I like music by artists such as Alvin Lee, SRV, Beatles, Humble Pie, CCR, and even Gogol Bordello, doesnā€™t mean that I canā€™t appreciate an orchestra.

I became nostalgic and am now playing ā€œTheme from a Summer Placeā€ by Percy Faith. It would be good music to study by!

Loved A Summer Place theme. Now I will ā€˜hearā€™ it all day. Not a bad song to get stuck in your mind for the day.

Many years hence, Caulfieldā€™s favorite music will meet the same fate.

WildeBill and Night-Gaunt49, do you REALLY not see that KonaKommando is representing the cartoonistā€™s point of view in order to commenting on the cartoonistā€™s closed-mindedness about music beyond his own taste? Heā€™s not calling anyone stupid or displaying a ā€œlack of vision.ā€ Iā€™ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you werenā€™t fully awake yet when you posted those comments.

I never have figured out why some people hate easy listening music so much. I am so sick of going into grocery stores, restaurants, and other places, and being screamed at by loud, demanding background music insisting on climbing inside my head.

Sorry, Mallett. I would take Percy Faith over the loud screaming any day.

Donā€™t know Percy Faith, but if you hum a few bars Iā€™ll fake it.

Iā€™m pretty much a total classical music fan, and preferably old classical music; but certain examples of pretty much any genre have tremendous nostalgic value.

Iā€™ve listened to plenty of Percy Faith; music to take naps to, or sit by the fire reading the paper while someone in another house smokes a pipe.

I hadnā€™t listened to mantovani or percy faith in years. I remember those, and they sure are better than todayā€™s music. Back then the musicians had to have talent, and practice. Today they fix it in the edit, autotune, etc, and itā€™s all about performance and costume, not practice or ability.

Band Leader Phil Harris (also a full time drinker) once said of Non-Drinkers "can you imagine waking up in the morning, knowing that is the best you are going to feel all day?

My 8 yr old son hates when people use the word ā€œtreatā€ for things having nothing to do with candy or cupcakes. He came home pouty telling me his speech therapist promised him a treat if he could sound the words out correctly. He did great and held his hand out expecting a sweet treat; instead he got a small plastic toy.

Percy Faith and his orchestra played beautiful Christmas music. I have quite a few of his cdā€™s.

It was around Sept.ā€˜59, I was about two and a half, and the first song to this day that I recall listening to, was Percyā€™s ā€œTheme from a Summer Placeā€ coming out of the floor-model radio cabinet..the sun had set a couple of hours ago, the living room lights were out, and it was just me & Percy..

I grew up in the era of Percy Faith et al; never cared for orchestral pop. If you are willing to do a little looking for it there are plenty of alternatives for gentle quiet music: Pacelbelā€™s Canon; Brian Enoā€™s ā€œMusic for Airportsā€; Fripp and Enoā€™s ā€œEvening Starā€; Tangerine Dream; Jade Warrior; Los Romeros, both as a trio or individually (Celedonio, Angel, or Pepe, a family of classical guitarists; Michael Hedges; Will Ackerman; for that matter pretty much most of the Windham Hill catalogue. There are more options than I have the time or energy to list here; the bottom line is, I believe any of these selections, or any of thousands of others like them, would have been satisfactory to both Mrs. Olson and her class.
