Comic or not, that hits hard. Healthy teens shouldn’t die—but they do.

Poor True. Probably the most consistently likable character in many years.

If this were Peyton Place instead of Milford, it would turn out Art was in love with Boo and is the one yelling NOOO!

I am curious to see how this moves forward. If this actually happened, I can’t imagine Bader would return to school.

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen Art. Or art in this strip. HooDad, any idea how long? And wasn’t Tru(e)’s mom supposed to have been home a year or two ago?

Art, doing his best Jack Benny imitation in P2.

Damn, coach, we were supposed to be a non-couple but, Nooo! Tru(e)’s wail in P3 is so loud it cracked the windows.

Gil appears to be speaking through Art’s phone book in P1. And WTF happened to his eye? Oh, and who uses phone books anymore? Oh right, this is Milford.

Bader will be back at school. Let’s hope he doesn’t start defending his dad. Then it would get nasty.

In all reality , Milford has lost its innocence . This storyline is some sobering reality .

@ BITSY TWILL ,Were you crowned the Freckle Queen at Chicago’s Free Fair in1964 ? It was held in the Back of the Yards at 4th & Damen .

This is sadder than when they killed off Col. Blake on M*A*S*H.

You know what would cheer everyone up? If Boo returned to earth as a mischievous, fun-loving ghost. She’s already got the name for it.

Two out runner on Second; the catcher see’s the runner cheating toward third and signals a pick off; Tru spins and throws. Oh, the ball just hit the Second baseman in the temple so hard, we could hear it up hear in the broadcast booth. End of the 5th and the score is evened.

Suggestion for MUT: Panel 1 as is. Gil in Panel 2: They’re out of Wake Forest caps at SwiftiMart. Panel 3 as is.

There probably will be no big confrontation or awkwardness at school with Master Bader, as the school year will now be over anyway. Other than one or two strips next week. After that maybe they’ll mention him moving away with his dad being in jail, or maybe he’ll just never again appear next school year because it’s too much of a burden on the writer to continue. And speaking of burdens, I hope reading today’s Mopped Up Thorp is not too much of a burden on you.

Yeah, if he said anything to that boy without talking to the folks first, he’s all kinds of wrong.

The Outlook wasn’t brilliant for the Mudlark nine that day:The score stood four to two, with but one inning more to play. And then when Boo girl died at first, and Pick-up man the same,A sickly silence fell upon the patrons of the game.

A straggling few got up to go in deep despair. The restClung to that hope which springs eternal in the Bloggers’ breast; They thought, if only Tru Boy could get but a whack at that -We’d put up even money, now, if Tru Boy had a gat.

But Gin didn’t agree with Tru, nor did also Jimmy Beam,And the former made him lulu and the latter made him dream; So upon that stricken multitude grim melancholy sat,For there seemed but little chance for Tru Boy and his gat.

But Tru was newly single, to the wonderment of all,And Big Mr. Brown, the happening man, raised our hero’s gall; And when the dust had lifted, and the men saw what had occurred,There was Delbert feeling safe while his son was just a turd.

Then from 5,000 throats and more there rose a lusty yell;It rumbled through the valley, it rattled in the dell;It knocked upon the mountain and recoiled upon the flat,For Tru Boy, mighty Tru Boy, had bought a Deamon’s hat.

There was ease in Tru Boy’s manner as he stepped into his place; There was pride in Tru Boy’s bearing an evil smile on his face. And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly drewo his gat,No stranger in the crowd could doubt ’twas Tru Boy, that was that.

Ten thousand eyes were on him as he rubbed his hands with dirt;Five thousand tongues applauded when he wiped them on his shirt. Then while the writhing drunkard ground solvent into his hip,Defiance gleamed in Tru Boy’s eye, a sneer curled Tru Boy’s lip.

And now the lead based sphere came hurtling through the air,And Tru Boy stood a-watching as it parted Delbert’s hair.Close by the sturdy Mudlark the cops kind of sped-“That ain’t my style,” said Tru Boy. “Another round”, the drunkard said.

From the benches, black with people, there went up a muffled roar,Like the beating of the storm-waves on a stern and distant shore.“Kill him! Kill the drunkard!” shouted someone on the stand; And its likely they’d a-killed him had not Tru Boy shown his hand.

With a smile of Christian charity great Tru Boy’s visage shone; He stilled the rising tumult; he bade the game go on;He signaled to the Coroner, and once more the bullets flew; But Tru Boy raged, had missed him with a few, and the drunkard said, “Round two.”

Poorly Drawed"!" cried the maddened thousands, and the bloggers answered:“drawed”?But one scornful look from Tru Boy and the audience was awed. They saw his face grow stern and cold, they saw his muscles strain,And they knew that Tru Boy wouldn’t let him live again.

The sneer is gone from Tru Boy’s lip, his teeth are clenched in hate;He pounds with cruel violence his bat upon Del’s pate. And now the police hem and haw, and now they let him go,And now the air is shattered by the force of Tru Boy’s blow.

Oh, somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright; The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light,And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout; But there is no joy in Milford – mighty State Champ Coach Gil Thorp is simply not about.

I don’t remember True’s dad being so cordial to Gil. As I recall Art tried to tell Gil how things were going to be if he wanted True in his sports program and Gil ended up putting Art in his place.
