My wife is a physician. She tells me the real problem is in looking for a “normal.” Everyone’s different. Human bodies react in a myriad of ways to the things we do to them.

For example, my great-grandmother lived to be 104 despite smoking 2 packs of unfiltered Camels a day for 80 years. But, my friend’s uncle died at 48 from lung cancer having never smoked a day in his life.

So, it appears that doctors and pharmacy companies are pretty much shooting in the dark as far as “normal” is concerned.

Saw an online discussion the other day. Someone said the junk food industry likes the exercise equipment industry because the junk food industry wants people to believe they can eat junk food and then workout to offset the effects. For a similar reason, the exercise equipment industry likes the junk food industry.

Ahh, I told myself I would not get into any comments about Karen Evans as part of the team. I did not think I had enough information to opine on that, and since this is a great strip generally I did not really care. But recently I did read something where it was made clear that while Greg still does the drawing and overall strategic planning (as we say in my day job as a business adjunct professor) Karen provides tactical (short-term, story by story) arc language and plans, and I have the strong sense of bringing the strip into Millinnial perspective in contradistinction to the Baby Boomer perspective that Greg and most of us have. I think that many of the print viewers of the strip, and a lot of the commentators here are likely Baby Boomers, or early state Gen X. So with that context I think that it is fair to say that this is clearly a somewhat sarcastic Millinnial comment on a current American hypocrisy on food. Particularly on us “older folk.” Younger generations are always fond of pointing out the hypocrisy of the older generations, the ones who were parents or authority figures, and who don’t do as they say they do. “Do as we say not as we do.” The compensating thing is that Millinnials are no different, as will generations that follow them in 2030 to 2050 and beyond will be quick to remind them. Short of cyrogenesic most of us will not be alive or have saved consciousness to see our beloved Millinnials get theirs Karen! Darn. -:)

Oh and one more thing before I forget with my aging Baby Boomer memory. You notice that these articles are being read on a phone, or a tablet? No print here!! Even more a millinnial thing. Many of us are obso folks. (lol)

I agree, NG. There is some interesting history to that. In the industrial world, including the U.S., during the Industrial Revolution child labor became very important for the wealthy to be able to access and reproduction freedoms were restricted or removed in a number of countries. Before the children were not needed as mill “fodder” for their cheap labor and small hands the laws stayed to a much greater extent out of that aspect of life, but with the rising need for cheap child labor not only did restrictive laws arise or worsen, depending on location, but multiple religions altered their earlier stances, as well. The changes were promoted as introducing moral behaviors, and those who financed the changes got their cheap and too often expendible labor.

we’re health conscious now BECAUSE of the diabetes and obesity from the past few decades. It’s not really an oxymoron situation as it is the transition phase between the “before” and “after” images.

J and K, yes, the unnamed individual’s (his?) comments are pretty much all over the place vascilating widely across days. Reminds me of someone i knew who was not good about following her health requirements (You get my drift) for her strong needs and swings. One difference is the stick then carrot; my late friend never tried that.
