Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for October 13, 2016
Transcript:
Mom: I also learned that Brad and Toni already have a bank account, are saving for a house and are keeping TJ as a roommate! Why don't we know about any of this? Dad: Because Brad's a self sufficient adult, making plans with his new life partner. Mom: Our son's outgrown us... Dad: uh...wasn't that the goal?
Flash Gordon about 8 years ago
Well, duh, sooner or later Luann will leave the nest too, and in the future Shannon will leave the nest that Toni and Brad have made. One more thing, I want TJ to permanently disappear with no drama.

shocking, isn’t it?

Because NRBeachBum is the Luann comments police, I will defer to him and not mention that:

Post your answer in the blog comments.

It might be the goal, but not being needed isn’t necessarily the most satisfying feeling.

Now if we could just get some of that outgrowing going on over at the Berger estate. Ma Berger could get more time with Mr. Gray. Gunther could move on with Tiff, Bern, or Luann…
.
Maybe even someone new? What light through yon window breaks? Gunther! Deny those shirts and refuse that plaid!

It’s not often that Frank’s the rational one between them.

Hey my before I go to bed comment. What I see Nancy and Frank discussing is so familiar for one who has two grown children. They are like plants, you birth, or adopt the little buds, nurture them, feed them, try to weed out the bad influences, try to shine the light of love and good judgment on them, you defend them from frost and other dangerous influences, then they grow up, and suddenly they don’t need you. A friend, who raised 7 daughters, and has a passel of grandchildren, and very successful grown daughters, said something I think that is appropriate: “once they get of age, and are grown you get out of the way.” This is where Nancy and Frank are. It hurts because you love them so much, but its good when they do good. You never stop being a parent, but they do start being adults, and the hope is that your planting and nurturing worked. As Frank said “Uh, wasn’t that the goal?”
paha_siga about 8 years ago
Doesn’t the house where Brad and TJ live and where they plan to move Toni, belong to Frank and Nancy? In that case, I don’t think it is wrong of them to ask why haven’t they heard about planned changes in the people who rent their house.
paha_siga about 8 years ago
Also, is it a rare thing for people in USA to have an bank account? My 12yo has one for a couple of years already.

Hope Brad & Toni are not saving for a house in L.A. They’ll be 110 before they have enough. That’s a long time to live with T.J.
dadoctah about 8 years ago
Why don’t you know more about this? You might if they’d let somebody post a regular message outlining points about the comic for you to study up on.

Well, now we know where Luann gets her “Drama Queen” persona!

So, they don’t read the strip?

I don’t even know where to start….
ACTIVIST1234 about 8 years ago
Before reading this, I thought of her tears yesterday as mourning the demise of her cute little son in the “17” shirt. Today she is mourning the death of her role as nurturer. But don’t worry, Nancy, the grandkids will be coming!

Nicely drawn panels reflecting common/typical laments of parents everywhere. Nothing else to report or comment on from me, today.
StoicLion1973 about 8 years ago
Don’t they own the house where Brad (& Toni) and TJ live? Shouldn’t they, as landlords, know about his intention to add another person to the lease?
Airman about 8 years ago
Frank has emerged as the voice of sanity in this chaotic world we live in. He and Nancy have done their job, now its time to let Brad and Toni face their Brave New World.
thomas93 about 8 years ago
Is bernice and dez still roommates?

This stupid strip is like being stuck in “Groundhog Day”!

Reminds me of a deodorant commercial where the mothers are crying in pain their sons have grown and gone, the fathers are crying in joy their sons have grown and gone.

Yes Frank, Yes it was. Good Job!

I meant a part of the equity, obviously.

I do not want to know everything my young adult children do. After 20 years of worrying about them it’s nice not to have to be concerned about anyone else’s life so much.
rimshot22 about 8 years ago
Many mothers are incapable of letting go of their sons. When it’s time for Luann to leave, hopefully not with Quill, it will be her father who will be distressed and anxious. When children marry, many parents of the same gender feel they are being “replaced.” In some ways (no innuendos please), they are, but that’s the way of the world.
tcayer about 8 years ago
They HAVE a house and TJ already lives in it. Why don’t they buy that one from mom and dada?

My dad retired as a Mstr Sgt. He made piddly, too. I babysat starting at 8, took over my brother’s paper route at 12, worked at a hamburger joint at 15, hardware store at 16 and off to college at 17. I had a tuition scholarship as long as I played in the college orchestra and worked summers and holidays to save for expenses, room and board. I’ve never borrowed from my parents, but they have been good parents to me. If my brothers or I needed anything besides a roof and meals, we had to pay for it ourselves. It didn’t hurt any of us. We know how to work and work hard.
howtheduck about 8 years ago
Because they apparently don’t talk to you. It has nothing to do with age. It has all to do with the fact that for the most part Nancy has hated on Toni.
Sisyphos about 8 years ago
I don’t want to be harsh, really, but Frank is right. Deal with it, Nancy. Embrace your New Freedom!
