Do you REALLY want to see the President of the United States when he’s angry?

If you seem to have misplaced or run out of your current medication, or cannot afford your prescription, Ultradinapharmalargonixis can help… Just ask your doctor for details. (Side-effects may include sleepiness, diarrhea, constipation, poverty, flatulence, insomnia, death, hot flashes, yeast infections, sunburn, tinnitus, boogers, loss of appetite, excessive weight gain, hoarding, sarcasm, bill collectors, and/or wildfires.)

I’m glad we have wise old men in Washington to guide our young, inexperienced Prez. Why he’ll have twice as much experience when he leaves the highest office. OJT, the American way.

^Don’t start with the inexperience meme - he’s got more than other presidents. What he needs is to whip some Republican tail and push them aside. They have been useless to this country.

Hey CD, name something B.O. has done in the past that qualifies as experience to be prez. Running for office and 2 years as senator don’t count BTW.

    vanpelt,

Well, if you’ve ever seen Breitbart get worked into a lather (which is pretty much whenever he is challenged), you can understand why he’s doesn’t understand the nature of calm, rational speech.

cdward, citing Obama’s extensive experience prior to being elected reminds me of a scene from “Aliens”:

Ripley: How many drops is this for you, Lieutenant? Gorman: Thirty eight… ummm, simulated. Vasquez: How many combat drops? Gorman: Uh, two. Including this one. Drake: $hit. Hudson: Oh, man…

    Academic experience doesn’t count.

Unfortunately, our president’s academic style of leadership has led the country to perceive him from an elitist perspective:

Hicks: Looks like the new lieutenant’s too good to eat with the rest of us grunts. Frost: Boy’s definitely got a corncob up his bleeep

And as Garry’s commentary suggests, keeping your cool isn’t the kind of leadership the Democrats need right now.

Hicks: We’re all in strung out shape, but stay frosty. We can’t afford to let one of those (Republican) bastards in here.

The White House is in a state of shock. They still can’t believe that a grass-roots organization comprised of folks they consider to be Hicks (sic) is threatening to take power from them during the mid-term elections.

Ripley: They cut the power. Hudson: What do you mean, “They cut the power”? How could they cut the power, man? They’re animals!

Panic sets in as congressmen distance themselves from the policies they voted for:

Hudson: Oh dear Lord Jesus, this ain’t happening, man… This can’t be happening, man! This isn’t happening!

In an attempt to rally the troops, Joe Biden tells Democrats yesterday to stop whining:

Ripley: Well, I don’t care how, but we better think of something. We better think of a way. Hudson: Think of what? We’re bleeeped! Hicks: Shut up! Hudson: We’re doomed here! Hicks: SHUT UP!

However, come November 3rd, will the Aliens have won the House? What will become of Nancy Pelosi?

Hudson: That’s it, man. Game over, man. Game over, what the bleeep are we supposed to now, huh, what are we gonna do? Burke: Maybe we can build a fire, sing a couple of songs, huh, how about we try that.

    Quotes courtesy of IMDb.com :-)

    “Chill pills”?

As a Canadian, in Canada, it seems I can’t see ”The Rock” Obama. But they’ve gotten smarter. They apologize, and say they’re working on it, and I can leave my email address if I want to be told when the video is available in my country. And this does work. Instead of going into a towering rage, as I have done before when I feel that they think nobody outside the US counts, now I just get mildly annoyed.

Do you really think it’s a good idea to base all your political beliefs on movie quotes as opposed to real life?

Frankr, methinks I’ve posted over 100 times in this forum, and 1 post using some movie quotes hardly qualifies as “all my political beliefs”.

Understanding real life is what it’s all about, isn’t it? I think you’ve summed up the current political climate well. But agree or not, if you can’t see the humor of it, well, maybe you’re an Alien too.

Newt: My mommy always said there were no monsters - no real ones - but there are. Ripley: Yes, there are, aren’t there? Newt: Why do they tell little kids that? Ripley: Most of the time it’s true.

Nemesys: All I’m saying is that quoting movies does no more to back up your point than quoting any other fictional source (like the bible).

As for seeing the humour I guess I don’t. I remember seeing Alien 30 years and while I haven’t memorized it, I don’t remember it as a laugh-fest.

And as to whether I’m a space alien, I’m not allowed to comment without consulting the mother ship.

Pretty impressive! He skipped right over the denial part and went straight to the anger. Looks like he’s going to omit the negotiation phase as well.

Could someone explain to me just what experience “W” had? – Aside from being AWOL from the National Guard. While we’re on it – how about RR – does acting in B movies count? If experience in the Senate doesn’t count, should experience as a governor count? Explain how these differentiate regarding “experienced enough” for president.

Every president enters office with exactly the same amount of experience: none. The job is so different from any other that no amount of experience in other fields really provides much useful preparation. And right about the time they get the hang of it, we force them to retire.

Dapperdan61–well, it could be worse. The Republican economic plan is best represented as a suppository…

Arrgghh, I thought when I heard the “shoved down our thoats” cliche for the 500th time that I was done.

Obama promised repeatedly and on national TV what he would do about healthcare as a campaign promise. 54% of the electorate then voted for him. Surprise! He did what he said he would do.

The right has become a bit spoiled as politics have gone mostly their way over the last 30 years. When the left has the occasional victory, they flip out.

Do you think that the people who were against Bush’s tax cuts are living in an alternate universe where the deficit is much smaller? Well, we are here and stuck with a huge deficit along with the rest of America.

    puddleglum1066, you are exactly correct.

There was no way to tell beforehand that Harry Truman or James K. Polk, for instance, would end up being among the most effective presidents, or that James Buchanan would be the worst …

Wildcard24365 said, I say again, when did lucid calm under pressure become a “weakness?”

When Obama does it. Anything Obama does will be spun into an evil plot or failure by his opponents. If he wants to encourage school kids, then he’s “indoctrinating” them. Calm under pressure is “robotic” and “aloof” and “alienating”. Passionate under pressure will be labeled “reactionary”. He can offer the Republicans their own items in a bill, and they won’t go for it because he’s behind it, as demonstrated recently. Whatever help he offers them, they slap it away. They think they might be infected somehow by him if they make any concession to him or if he makes any concessions to them.

It’s 1950s paranoia, because they all wish it were the 1950s again, and now that the “commies” are gone, Obama is the new “socialist” under the bed.

The problem with the dems is that it works. I don’t see any reps worried about how what they do looks. I don’t hear them apologizing constantly or trying to change their image. W never bothered, nor did his father or RR. The dems are always running scared and that’s what often defeats them.
