Our baby is crazy about his daddy’s slippers! In fact, Hubby is CLEARLY the favorite parent! I am home all day, but Hubby works, so baby pines for him by sleeping in Hubby’s chair & side of bed. More and more often he hones in on Daddy first. I am delighted, as Hubby was acclimated to the idea of indoor cats, being a farm boy. His family likes cats, but they don’t make pets of them. We changed that tune. I told him we’d just have one kitty (Sis kept the others, bless her!), but we’d ALWAYS have one kitty. Two have crossed the Rainbow Bridge since marriage years ago, and Hubby becomes more firmly a cat man with each one! Thank you, Lord! :-))))))
Why do cats stick their heads into slippers or shoes especially work shoes with leather laces? It is almost as if it produces a super powerful catnip high.
In fact, right now, Hubby is fast asleep under his big comforter. And, jutting out from his waist is our baby, half under the covers, squinging happily at me! (“Squinge” is borrowed from “P.J. My Friend”, a book I read as a college kid & remember thankfully!)
When my girl was real young, she loved my shoes and would stuff one of her little fuzzy mice waaaaay down in the toes of them. She must have really had to stretch her arm out and push. Great surprise when I tried to put them on.
I had one once who was obsessed with wool sweaters, especially damp ones. I had to dry them in the spare room with the door shut to keep her from rolling in them and wrestling with them. So she’d hang from the doorknob by her front paws trying to open it. Yeah, she was smart – so smart it was almost scary.
Our Teddy Bear boy is the same way, Daddy went back to work after 10 months of attempting to be retired and he sits watching the door waiting for Daddy to come home and has taken to sleeping with his paws wrapped around Daddy’s neck. Which makes sleep a tad difficult for my sweetheart, since Teddy resembles President Taft in girth. Scooby Do is obsessed with my husband’s work pants, (he must have been a Master Mechanic like his Daddy in a former life) and we have to actually keep that hamper in the closet to keep Scooby from sleeping on them.
Small personal announcement/request: Please keep your fingers, paws and claws crossed with good wishes for my dear friend, The Mad Knitter (who some may recall memorialized The Boys and Tommy in wool). She put in a bid on a barely-affordable but quite adorable little house, it was accepted, and now we just have to hold our collective breath that nothing goes wrong-passes inspection, financing works out, closing costs manageable, etc. She needs and deserves a Karmic break, so any good thoughts we can send her way will be appreciated.
This is so sweet! Never had this happen with footwear. However, if I leave anything I’ve worn on the bed, it very quickly has a cat on it. One of our boys really likes sleeping in a half-full laundry basket.
I love how even the ties on the slippers seem to be showing facial expression. The one on the left seems to be saying, “Who is this cat and why is he hugging me.” The other one seems to be saying, “Ouch, you’re squeezing too tight.” Georgia, I don’t know how you manage to give personality to inanimate objects, but you do it so well!
my baby, bentley, who passed over the rainbow bridge last year, was definitely a mama’s boy. he was a loner who stayed in another room a lot, and when i’d go to that part of the house, he’d jump up and curl up next to me, or gallop down the hall like a puppy and flop down in front of me. a big 19 pound kitty, but as soft-hearted as any kitty i’ve ever met.
My tabby cat Trouble, who passed a couple of years ago at 20, loved to get dad’s work boots in the middle of the night and play with them. Only his boots, she’d leave my tennis shoes alone. However when it came to slippers, my mother wears the kind you just slide your foot in, with no back on them. Trouble liked to sleep under the kitchen table and mom was usually sitting there, but she has a habit, especially while talking on the phone, of swinging her foot back and forth. This was usually right in front of Troub’s face. I could always tell when she’d had enough by mom’s sudden yelp of “TROUBLE!” Troub would grab the fuzzy part of the slipper and pull it off her foot and then hold it down with a glare as if to say “You asked for it, quit swinging that shoe!”
LUPIN, LET THOSE SLIPPERS GO!!!! Never did like having cats take over my slippers after Reaky used to us them to get high. I swear he must have though my feet were rubbed in catnip and that I was putting the catnip in my slippers.

Lupin on soft mode

My kitten does that too, except it’s more of a “grab the slipper, stick your face into the toe, roll on your back and rabbit kick it”.

OMC, my parents are going to love this one. Their cat LOVES the smell of my moms shoes (and her feet, too!)

Oh, Lupin’s look of utter joy in the last panel. I’m imagining him sticking his face into one of the slippers and getting stuck.

I love that my cat misses me when I’m not here.
catmom1360 about 7 years ago
Maybe the cats do that because they like the smell of stinky feet.

I hope JIMMJONZZ is OK. He didn’t respond yesterday.

We now return to my regular commentary, which is: SQUEE !!! Lupin hugging the slippers, so happy. OMC, another masterpiece.

That’s our Scooter regarding my husband. Scooter has very little use for me unless Brad is gone.

Is it just me, or does it seem like one of the slippers is answering back to Lupin in the last panel?

I see that a Tommy pin is now available. I’m waiting for a Pucky pin.

Am I the only one getting an ad at the top of the page for a pair of slippers exactly like the ones in today’s strip?

@Sue Ellen When you’re an “insider”, you don’t see ads after you sign in.
