Sometimes Mom’s maternal instincts get in the way of common sense.
Note: Max’s plane crashed on the way to his home state.
Was it maternal instincts or knowing that Max was just acting polite?
(sometimes, sometimes really means never)
Doesn’t really feel like the Uncle Max story amounted to much.
There shouldn’t really be a problem with Calvin’s luggage.
Oh wait, he forgot Hobbes.
This moment will be one of those things they’ll always look back on in regret! Lol!
This was back in the day when you could actually accompany your visitor to the departure gate. It’s not been that way for quite some time.
Maybe the only time in this strip that we see an actual plane (or part of one) rather than a Calvin’s imagination plane.
There’s a blue light special on at K-Mart if you miss him.
OK, parents, admit it. Hasn’t there been a time when you haven’t had thoughts like this? “How many stamps will it take to mail him to New Zealand?”
This was an odd arc, never really developing into anything. Max just became the only adult I recall Calvin having an amicable relationship with.
What a terrible thing to do to a relative, Dad.
Notice Dad didn’t say “round trip” ticket either, huh.
It seems like Calvin’s Dad is always very sarcastic about Calvin. He rarely shows him any affection or love. Unlike Calvin’s Mom. Am I wrong?
If I had a child like Calvin, I would say “NO! … You need a ticket first!”
xxx
Calvin would willingly leave without Hobbes?
Calvins Mom’s eyes in the first panel though XD
Too bad Max never showed up again. I know Watterson’s reasons as to why, but Max was a fun character, and Calvin getting a non-authority-figure adult in his life was interesting.
Watterson’s always so good. her “Well.” is classic.
