When I retire in a few years I’ll no longer be able to rewire my house. No, wait, I never could do that anyway.

When was this guy in the strip regularly, just out of curiosity? I started following it closely around 1997, and I don’t recall him …

I don’t recall him, either. Maybe he was mentioned in on of those “line-up” listings or something small?

He was a DH for Central City in ’96 and moved to Milford in ’08. He and Gil became friends after meeting at the local batting cages on night. (OK, I made that up!)

In all reality , Gil gives Jordy a long loving look , I sense that there was some electricity between them in days gone by .

P1, They’re paying me more to learn than you did to play for Milford.

P2, Yeah, and if that doesn’t work coal mining is coming back, too.

P3, Gee, you wouldn’t have a couch for me to sleep on, would you?

After doing some research, Jordy splashed onto the scene during the 2015 pre baseball season lineup chat with GilPa and Marjie. The future apprentice was slated to pitch and play 1st base. This was True Standish’s junior season as the closer. P3- Where is that place to be, Jim Rome err, Jordy?

If he was a slugger good enough to play (at least briefly) Jaycee ball, you’d think we’d have heard a lot about him- he’d have made things happen

Wow—I am surprised to be back. I was carrying the team all summer back in 2015, crushing the slider of New Thayer’s ace Wade Mason on June 2 and winning game after game on the mound. But once the scouts noticed that “Mr. Baseball” True Standish was exploding the radar gun, Gil started losing interest in me. I was dumped by Gil and Kaz altogether after I lost my duel with hard-throwing Larry Davis of Jefferson and gave up that long ball to Lowell Logan on July 3, blowing our slim chance to catch them for first place. Oh and thanks a lot, Knox Foley, studying prelaw at State or wherever, for airmailing the double play grounder that would have got me out of the jam. And I got no help from True, who was suspended by the end of the season and wasn’t even at the game against Jeff. If I win that game I probably get at least a college scholarship like Standish, Davis, and Mason.

Instead I was relegated to playing ball at Milford Community College—not for some Arizona Jaycees—and I never recovered once the coaches lost confidence in me. I haven’t heard a word from coach for a two and half years. It is a good thing I learned a skill. Anyway, I need some help from the coaches to sort out Primo’s problem. (Also, maybe I would be good enough if I got hold of some of those “nutritional supplements” Kaz uses for his workouts.) But probably they will try to talk me into coaching basketball in my spare time, as they probably can’t even remember I play baseball. Close enough, right? Or maybe try to get me to fix for free the water-induced short circuits in the “PA system” they rigged up in the locker room. Hmm, if I play this right, maybe I can electrocute them all.

By the way, Thorp got Steve Luhm back into college soon after his dustup with Cassie Korman’s (other) age-inappropriate boyfriend. He graduated about 7 years ago, and has been working in IT ever since. I was on a job rewiring his place in Central City just last fall. His floors were nice, though!

Before Ellis gets to it, I’d like to remind us all of Fireside Theater’s "How can you be in two places at once, when you aren’t anywhere at all?

Nice to see Gil Thorp mentioning skilled trades. 5 million vacancies. True story. No college required. For those who have no desire for college. I retired as a master plumber. Owned my own business in a largely rural area. Made over $100K every year for the last 30 years. Son now a master plumber. Who now owns the business.
