To quote Kahn (who was quoting from whatâs been attributed to either a Portuguese or Italian proverb although the Klingons may also use it) âRevenge is a dish best served cold.â On the other hand, at least Calvin didnât miss.
Mad Magazine, ca. 1968: Man standing on sidewalk; second man walks up, slaps him on the back, and asks, âHowâs the glass eye doing?â First manâs eye pops out, bounces into the street where it is promptly run over by a handy steamroller. First man replies, âItâs doing okay. Guess Iâll have to get one for the other eye now.â
When I first read this strip, I thought Calvin and Susie each lost one eyeball for real and for the rest of the strip, they drew two eyeballs for them both even though they had one because it looked weird if they had just one. Youâll have to remember I was like seven or eight, so I had the craftiest ideas (if crafty means weird). After reading this, I developed a deep fear of losing one or both of my eyeballs (which I still have now. And yes, I am a paranoid person). WHY WATTERSON?!? YOU CREATED ONE OF MY DEEPEST FEARS! But I still think this is funny.

Calvin, youâre going to lose 2 fights today.
The Calvinosaurus That Calvin Wanted To Discover about 7 years ago
You would expect Calvin to be in victory formation if he ever knocked out Susieâs eye. Turns out he has a light side after all.

Uh-huh. How timely. Girls arenât always the sweet, innocent victim. They can very well hold their own, and then some. Beware.

What year did that one come out? This strip should be about their kids by now. Can you picture the lawyer Calvin would be?
