oh, you’re so going to get it, Elizabeth, once you tell El the truth

I think Ellie knows……

Elizabeth already has her hands on her bottom, just where Ellies hand might end up when she gets to the bottom of the truth.

Elizabeth is taking it to the Hamptons.

“Getting to the bottom of this” in my case as a little kid would mean my bottom for lying.

Elly is a good Mom: She knows Lizzy is fibbing; willing to go out in the Canuck winter to make lizzie face her lie: Good Job!

My music teacher got to the bottom when I hit a few keys as we were walking out of music class. That was over 50 years ago and I still remember her hand swatting my behind.

Once Ellie gets to the bottom, Lizzie’s going to get it on her bottom!

Nothing is quite as scary as a passive-aggressive mother!

It’s very unfortunate that Elizabeth now seems to be anticipating a beating.

That’s what Elizabeth was afraid of, Elly!

I don’t know…it looks like to me, that Elly believes her. Elly looks pretty “mom” fierce in the last panel. Lizzy knows what she will get when mom finds out the truth. "Get to the bottom of this " is a great play on words.

Elizabeth is now Duh-lizabeth.

There was a similar Sunday strip where Michael was sent to buy milk. He also blows it when goofing around. The final scene shows Elly glowering as she has to fork over more money to buy milk (as well as wasting her time). Maybe that strip was different as unlike this one, Michael was caught red-handed.

It’s unfortunate that kids always have to learn the hard way that it’s much easier to simply admit the truth than going through the excruciating agony of ‘being found out and chastised’. Ellie could make the lesson much easier to learn for the kids and without risking losing their fragile love…. yep, I raised 6 kids myself, mostly, and yep, there are one or two kids who still resented losing that battle with me.
