I didn’t know sissy was a synonym for smart.

Ah, the strategy of doing things your own way because the smart way makes you weak or a sissy.

Sorry people but I’m with Calvin about that. Why read the instructions when you can ruin the whole thing yourself?

All those years of putting models together with that plastic cement and I had no idea what a substance I had. Never intentionally sniffed it, who knew what that meant back then, but I suppose I got enough residual fumes anyhow. I assure you that my projects never came close to the ones leading edge shared.

Hobbes should secretly read the directions anyway. Then when his part turns out right and Calvin’s doesn’t, Hobbes can brag about how much smarter he is than Calvin!

It falls in the same category as asking for directions. It’s a “guy” thing.

I would build them and my brother would break them. I liked it that way as I loved to build them and didn’t care about them once I was done. So this way I could get new ones to build. One time I was apartment sitting for a friend and built a large ship model from wood. I left it at his place when he came back. He told me the landlord’s kid wanted to play with it. I told him to give it to him. He was shocked as it took 3 months to build. I was done with it.

First you mess it up, then you read the instructions: that’s when the oh that’s where that goes revelation arrives

My wife never read instructions and I always did. It worked out perfectly. When she couldn’t figure out how to make something she would ask me and I would read the instructions and make it. When I would go to make something and couldn’t figure out the instructions I would ask her. She would look at what I was trying to make and figured it out on her own.

Future engineer in the making. Never met an electrical, petroleum, or mechanical engineer who didn’t try to “fix it” or “assembly it” without the checking the manual! ☺

We moved into this house in late October, so Hubby went off to start the furnace. I could hear him muttering curses in the dark, so I went in to see how he was doing. He had a small pile of burnt matches in front of him and complained the pilot light kept going out. “To start furnace, hold button down for fie seconds.”

    “Where to you see that?”

About three inches above the hole where he was poking the lit match. Look up, you might be missing something!

Reminds me of a cartoon I saw once. This guy was building a canoe. He had tools (and INSTRUCTIONS) laying on his work bench. He was sitting with his head down on the bench. Behind him, the canoe was upside down on top of two work horses. The pointed tip of one end was curved downward like you’d expect, and the other end was pointed up. The caption read “Oh, s**t.” Been there, done that.

Just to really date myself, I assembled all the Universal Monster model kits; Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, the Wolfman, the Phantom of the Opera, King Kong, and Godzilla (yes, I know a couple of those weren’t Universal films, but that was the model series’ tagline). And I painted them in garish, gory, glorious detail. Do they still make plastic model kits? Somehow, that seems much to tame a pastime for today’s kids. I mean, there’s no app for that, is there?

I knew a couple of F-4 Phantom Mechanics like that, although they weren’t named Calvin. I actually worked on the F-4 in VX-4 when I was stationed at Pt. Mugu CA.

Ok, it seems our friend LeadingEdge has been banished by the GoComics deep state. Hopefully, they will see the error of their ways and all LE to rejoin our community.
