Does that expression on Thick’s face mean he realizes this is a stupid plan? Can he pass that message to Locher?

Tomorrow, Horn Hair will explain that the job is an easy one. “You won’t even have to drive, Thick! Mordred still has a valid driver’s license.”

Thick can get out on a medical excuse. All he has to do is facepalm himself, then get stitches from where his hand hits his nose.

Will Liz begin to have the nervous twitch that Inspector Dreyfus had when Clousseau was assigned a case?

Speaking of nervous twitches, where is Testicle Chin? Is he beating his head against the office wall? Did he leave to drink himself into a merciful stupor? And how much tighter can Locher make his lazy close-ups? If he zooms in any closer he’ll need to draw the hairs inside Thick’s nose.

Bill Thompson, Maybe he’ll have time to draw nose hairs now that he has stopped drawing teeth. Is Spacy so old and senile that he forgot to put his dentures in? Will Spacy start appearing in Poligrip ads after January?

What if the “idea” here is to let Mordred appear to escape, so he can be used as an assassin? That would explain the complex and clumsy “diversion.” Leave Mordred alone with Thick, then blame Thick for the disappearance (possibly after Mordred redeems himself by killing Thick.)

Even if this was the Dick Tracy of the Gould era, this is a really bad idea. This is Locher Dick Tracy, and that makes the plan so unbelievably bad this strip may become unreadable.

How bad is the idea? Notice that Liz isn’t volunteering. Sam is off-stage somewhere, having escaped (at least temporarily). We, the readers, have been asked to suspend any semblance of intelligence while reading this strip since even a first grader would know better than to do something like what’s being suggested here.

One way Dick could redeem himself: Turn in his resignation to the force right now, exclaiming “Liz, I’ve heard some really dumb stuff and humiliated myself for the force in some strange situations over the past few years, but this has to be the worst. Nobody sane would do this, so I won’t. Goodbye.” If he did that, say in the next couple of days….. who knows, maybe this strip might become readable again.

It sounds more like a plan to protect a president than transport a killer. Why are they so worried someone will assasinate him? He will most likely escape due to Tracy’s inompetence

Excessive restraint ! (?) More chains than Sampson.

But do we have a Harry Houdini here (and on the back seat ?) with Tracy’s eyes on the road and sitting up front ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Escapology

Dumb plan ! Better to transport the killer and ALL three decoys in Armoured Vehicles where they wouldn’t be visible and rescuers would have to guess which Car to strike (?)

And wouldn’t it make SENSE to have Sam present in the event the ‘unexpected’ happens ?

No ! He’s been put on the backseat in the Nappingville Station, again ! … and not in the car. Locher prefers a ‘lone wolf’ Tracy, easier to write in a “Goof Up” !.Why make life difficult ?

In his promotional blurb TMS notes - Dick Locher’s ability to capture to the_ ‘absurdities’_ of life Dicky is about to deliver again

Feds figure with Spacy in charge this guy will be found out and killed by the “family members” of the victims, so they won’t have to budget for incarceration

” Why are they so worried someone will assisinate him?”

Easy donaldo — Eric Holder is in charge, and he must be ’alive’ to be tried in a ‘Civilian’ Court, like 9/11 organizer Khalid Sheik Mohammad.

The Attorney General calls the ‘shots’, and what with his Barbadian roots things must be done by the ‘book’ !

Keeping a prisoner alive for trial is a basic part of the American justice system–although it’s an irrelevant point here, as Locher has established that Dr. Mordred has already been convicted. He doesn’t appear to have been a terrorist, so he’s automatically processed by the civilian courts.

I don’t know why Locher would have “the FBI” arrange some elaborate plan to move a prisoner like this, but just about everything Locher does mystifies me. I haven’t found any information on Federal prisoners being shot while being transported–does anyone know of any cases? The real-world danger is in the courtroom, where all you need is a pistol and a chance to get near the suspect.

So far this arc reeks of a set-up, with “the FBI” wanting to let Dr. Mordred escape. My guess du jour is that he’s supposed to vanish and become a CIA assassin (which is dumb; here in the real world serial killers don’t make good hit men.)

One high profile prisoner killed in transport was Lee Harvey Oswald, but believe he was in custody of Dallas PD

Obviously, Locher doesn’t know anything about prisoner transfers and handling. He’s never heard of a paddy wagon. Never heard of a Brinks truck. In Naperville, they use Saab/Citroen/Prius combos from the Pick-A-Part yard.

It’s a good thing Locher wasn’t advising the CIA in Iraq when they captured Saddam.

Since Tracy is obviously doomed to fail in this transport, I hope he at least reprieves himself in this story and recaptures Mordred. If someone else, like a homeless person, has to save his bleeep, I’m going to puke.

It won’t be a homeless person; it’ll be the ghost of one of Mordred’s victims.

And when it comes to dangerous missions, the first person we think of is the guy who’s afraid to phone his own wife to ask permission to work overtime.

Chief Lizz said : ” there will be 3 (three?), ‘look alike’ actors in different cars ” (?)

    Really (??)

Remember, Locher said in a recent interview that he had ‘Parkinsons’, and we did see his hands ” shaking “ in the Video at the instalation of the DickTracy stature.

We may now have to question Dr. Mordred’s diagnosis. I assume it was his (?)

As it may well be ‘Alzheimers’ instead why do I think so (?) Dicky L is about to ’ forget ‘ the number of decoys ?

Come mid-December, ‘count’ the decoy cars, ‘count them one by one’ and it will surprise what the Champion Author’s done, Oh my ! – FIVE is much more fun !

I just read all the posts from yesterday. Quite a diverse group. I don’t get to post everyday or in prime-time most days. Yesterday’s another 14 hour long day and the boss like us to work at work.

I enjoy the new Dick Tracy strip everyday. I, like Vash, am one of the younger fans here. I am 43 and live in Kenosha, Wisconsin. My earliest memories of the Dick Tracy strip are reading the Sunday funnies with my Dad. Growing up in Illinois, Dick Tracy was our favorite strip, along with Blondie and Beetle Bailey. The later day Gould and early Fletcher strips. We just had our first snowfall here, but I know no one wants to here about any small news or any positive comments, so I will stay on topic….

But I just got back from Thanksgiving break, visiting family in Illinois. I had a chance to see the Dick Tracy statue at the Naperville River-Walk and it is remarkable! (sorry, another non-negative comment). If you ever get the chance, go see it.

The day I went it was raining (there is more weather talk, so if you are offended skip ahead). I really wanted a photo in the bright sunlight, but a dark photo of Dick Tracy in his wind-swept overcoat in the rain seems very appropriate for the subject matter.

Kids that came up to the statue either posed under the giant overcoat or struck a pose talking to their wrist watches for their parents. Another interesting fact: There was a wedding party posing for pictures around the Dick Tracy statue. A Naperville resident told me that the deck where the statue is had been a circular brick-platform where couples have been taking photos for years. Neat to think that generations of marriages will start here under Dick Tracy’s watch.

If any one else has any Dick Tracy statue stories or has visited the statue, it would be great to hear them. And thanks for the opportunity to voice a positive comment. I have tried to stay positive here but the Highly Rated and highly successful Jerry Springer-style Mob-Mentality still exists here. I’ll check back here to view any Dick Tracy statue stories, but the bitterness and petty nit-picking—–I can do without.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and to most of you… Have A Good Life.

Bravo, loved the comments by all three of you. They went together great. ———————————————————- SimonPenn You think we have a Mob-Mentality because of what is posted here. I am 81 years old and I remember Dick Tracy from the 30’s. I just started reading it again a few months ago (when he was in the Science Museum) out of curiosity because of the comments I saw on the Pibgorn strip. This strip strains any credibility that might exist from the story line to the drawing. I realize that it is a comic strip but please, have some sort of reality to it.

SimonPenn, I can see why you say its a mob mentality since everyone is jumping on Lochers back, myself included. But come on now. You read Gould, youre reading this. You have to admit there was such a severe drop in quality that its to the point where this is almost like a horrible fanfic made on the internet. Locher has reduced Dick to an object of ridicule when he was supposed to be object of admiration. Please SimonPenn, tell me and everyone else what is so redeeming about this strip. What do you see in it? I see a bunch of flaws and horrible artwork.

Even so Im still looking forward to this arc. This whole thing is a horrible idea and I cant wait to see how Locher messes it up worse and then pulls a solution out of nowhere. Maybe Mordred will realize the error of his ways and save Dick from some other menace somewhere.

NVash, I’m living for the scene where Thick does something utterly stupid in Mordred’s presence. Then from inside his costume hood, the Ultimate Evil rasps out “Fluke–I am NOT your father!”
