Maybe tomorrow we’ll see Luann somewhere showing her drawing of Jack to Tara. If it’s just what we see here, Tara might have a zinger comment.

Luann? I’ve got an “out” for you. Just draw the “chair,” not Jack. Just explain to the Professor that the chair represents “Warm Welcoming Comfort,” in a sea of “Raging, Hormonal, Dynamic, Athletic Energy.”

Blythe has done the most work, Luann got the head right.

Guess I’ll add to the Gunther rumble.

10 Aug 2007 featured a Gunther that was attractive and well-dressed. What happened that Gunther is always shown unshaven?

For that matter, Jack has joined the non-Schick crowd, as well. I don’t recall him being unshaven when he dropped the ball.

It would not surprise me if Dez turned out to be one of the models.

Also, it would be interesting to see Bernice’s reaction if Luann would have taken her along.

Apparently Luanne is the only art student who has managed to avoid seeing Michaelangelo’s David.

She could have at least sat up to see above the waist. How many times do I have to yell LOGIC in order for it to be used in this comic?

None of the other students seem to be having any trouble dealing with looking at a nude model. What’s Luann’s problem? I would have been more impressed if she was awkward about it at first but gradually got into the art and realized that her shyness went away once she became focused on the work.

Well I believe Luann is attracted to Jack generally, but is resisting it, although the attraction is nowhere near the kind of attraction she has had to guys in the past, Aaron Hill as an example. She falls hard, but they do not reciprocate, including Quill, but at a much more mature level. In Luann’s mind Quill was selfish, and not responding to her needs, only his. Jack might be different, that remains to be seen, but one thing about the nude art class panel, at least the “part” of Jack she did draw was quite good, and practically an exact representation of the top of his head, including the curl. Hmmm, what does that mean!

Well. We can surmise her dates with Jack have been platonic so far. Else she could sketch from memory.I’m still waiting for a clever gag from the G&K team re this whole arc. The way it is going we may have to wait for next week.

I’ve been modeling for college art classes and art groups for many years. The art classes are with students who are young folks in their twenties, and are the most mature, respectful, best behaved people I have had the pleasure to work with. They have no problem working with a nude model, and I’ve had no issues with this age group. There was one exception. At a different venue (not the college), normally with older artists, I was a last minute fill-in for a female model who cancelled. A girl in her early twenties came in, who was not expecting a male model. She told the curator that she was uncomfortable with a male model. The curator tried to explain to her that figure art was with nude models, but the girl still had a problem. So the curator, a bit embarrassed, asked me if I wouldn’t mind wearing pants for the session, which I agreed to.

Maybe Luann is still traumatized from the episode a few years back when she encountered Gunther in the nude as he was changing out of rain soaked clothing

I remember when my friend in college said he was posing nude for an art class. He talked about it in a similar way to the way Tara conversed about her experience. He was well-built and good looking, and I couldn’t speak with him for weeks without being embarrassed because my imagination would only let me see him, well, naked.

I really find all of these comments very interesting. I’ve been posing as a nude male model for about 6 years or so. I’m 75 years old and I’m certainly not muscular. I’m not fat, but I am a bit overweight with a bit of an expanded waist line. I model at 2 of the local colleges. Students for the most part are in their late teens or early twenties, although sometimes, there are students in their 50’s. All of the students were and are very respectful of the nude form.At my very first modeling session, the instructor told me to keep my clothes on, as the class would only be doing facial portraits. OK. So then I thought that my old body shape was not going to be acceptable as a model. At my second modeling session, the instructor was going to have me pose nude, but I had to ask if that meant totally nude and not partially covered. I didn’t want to surprise the class if some cover up was expected. The instructor said yes and then asked me if I was posing for the first time.At two different classes, I was the first live male nude model that the class had seen. There was one female student that seemed to be looking at a nude man for the first time, as she couldn’t stop smiling.Often times, I receive a round of applause from the class. Sometimes, students will thank me directly for posing for them. The feedback I get from students, instructors, and administrative people is that I’m one of their favorites models. (It must be my gray hair as I am far from being endowed.) I think I’m favored because I can hold a pose without moving for 20 minutes at a time. Also, my body wrinkles make for an interesting shadow lines.In the various frontal poses, no student has yet to depict male genitalia in its true form. The depiction is either left blank, as if the model were a female, or just scribbled in as an amorphous blob.Sometimes, if the instructor and the students approve, I’ll take photos of the students’ artwork for my own portfolio.

Several have commented on Luann’s response being unusually prudish and illogical. But to me it seems to be quite different to sketch a friend of the opposite sex – that one has dated – than a random model. Maybe a little prudish, but illogical? No.

Isn’t Luann 18 or 19 years old? If you can’t look at a naked man at that age, then something is wrong.

I’ve never considered myself prudish, but I imagine that if I was in an art class and one of my colleagues happened to be the nude model, I would feel somewhat awkward.

I’ll bet a lot of the art students would not want to see Zeno nude. An anonymous older guy would not make them as uncomfortable.

Looks like Nil is also avoiding certain body parts, i.e. everything but the legs. Perhaps he too had a problem w/ the fact that he knows the model.

@RSH: Not necessarily; Nil probably didn’t know Tara when she modeled for the class, and he concentrated on her elbow. Unless the students are told that they have to sketch the whole form, some might prefer not to. I had an artist friend once who mostly created pencil sketches of people’s hands, sometimes folded in prayer, sometimes doing something creative themselves (like knitting), and once, patting an old dog…

LOL! So funny! Brings back memories of my classmates during our first life drawing class…at a woman’s art school! The reactions of some were priceless! “I didn’t know he was gonna be NEKKID, nekkid!” Good times!

I’m still not sure if Luann is being overly squeamish about seeing Jack in the nude or if she just doesn’t want him to see that she is in the class. I guess the answer is more toward the former given that her eyes are still popping out (a bit). I’m wondering if Luann never saw her parents in the nude when she was growing up. I certainly did. It is normal.

Blythe is new, I think. With her curly hair, she could serve as a replacement for Bernice. Please!

The level of the sketches (even Luann’s “partial”) is uniformly good. Zebo must be a better studio instructor than he is in art criticism/art history….

Looks like it is luann who has the “hard feelings” regarding drawing Jack. Channeling Borenice I see.

I need to ask. Have we established that Luann is a virgin?
