I wonder if Jack knows where the dipstick goes?

Their dates haven’t gone well so far.

How is it Jack knows how to drive a car, but nothing about automotive mechanics?

Oh oh. She needs to clean up and he needs to dry off and change into dry clothes. Sounds like an old movie plot.

Judging from Luann’s clothes, it appears Jack has been running his car through oil and grease. That’s a lot of clothes and face mess for changing one tire.

Gee Jack. You’re just now finding out that our young heroine Luann is Amazing? Most of “Us” have known THAT for years.

However, while you seemed to justifiably impressed with Luann, I don’t think she feels the same about you.

I’m afraid you’re about to be “Gunthered,” by Luann. That is, become a guy she may “care” for but never Love.

And trust me, You really DON’T want to be “Gunthered.”

I’d be surprised if this went far. I just don’t see jack.

Note that Jack is not intimidated by Luann taking on a stereotypically “Masculine” task. ✨

Good job Luann way to turn a crisis into a good experience.

Until Jack reins in his roving eye (we saw him about twist his neck when a girl walked by after talking to Luann previously), I don’t think he is really serious about any girl at this point. But, who knows as time passes?

“I could change your oil, too.” Not a euphemism?

Jack seems as joyfully oblivious to the state of his or other people’s clothes or lack thereof as a big, friendly dog. And there are worse things than to resemble a dog. I bet he’s just as loyal, playful, nonjudgmental and protective.

He’s growing on me. Luann doesn’t need a romantic Hollywood movie-star type—Quill was that and there wasn’t anything behind the glitz. She needs somebody fun, reliable, and kind. And just a little bit goofy.

I’ve changed a tire or three in my day, and I never got grease or dirt on my face.

Or shirt.

I’m just relieved that no one got hurt. There were some posters who were certain that either the car would fall on Luann’s other foot, or she would drop it on Jack, and wail about how this was all her fault while Gunther rescued them. (And the poster who said that of course said it WAS her fault.) Thankfully, none of those bad outcomes happened…

As I read tnis, I could almost hear the lyrics to “Movin’ On Up”, with “a DEE-LUX apartment in the sky”…

And I think Luann opened the door for a second date – with Jack’s truck… for an oil change!

Many many years ago when I had a flat – my spare didn’t have enough air. I carried the spare to a gas station – got air – and decided to roll the spare back to my car. The spare started rolling faster than me – I tripped – and watched the spare scoot through a busy intersection. Nobody hit it – for which I was thankful.

Luann! You were suppose to CHANGE the tire, not roll around in the mud with it.

As usual inane comments, but the basic story arc remains the same: is this going to be a continuing lead up to romance for Luann with Jack? I think it is, and very serious eventually; I think Jack has a lot of potential, with his roving eye the biggest issue.

Luann is a showoff, and i go for Pizza.

They could still go for the pizza. Just have Jack go in and get it to go, that way, Luann would not have to go in a restaurant while she is dirty. Then take it over to Luann’s house where Luann can introduce Jack to Frank and Nancy. “Mom and dad, this is Jack – he’s a nude model…”

Uh, how about a dee-lux pizza? He’s buying!

Okay, who gets that dirty while changing a tire? Yes, the tire is dirty. Yes, the road is dirty. But dirt all over your face and nose?

What was Luann doing, making out with the tire?!

Luann has the worst luck. On her last date she was bowled over and this time she looks run down.

Jack is crazy for her, but she has no interest in him and is basically only humoring him because she’s too nice to say No. This might get awkward very quickly…

I guess if Luann is eating a burger she’s forgotten all about Earth Day.

Is it too far to ship these two?

In my day, as a teenager in the 50s, I didn’t know any guys that weren’t very knowledgeable about cars!

Who lifted the flat tire back into the truck? There might be the answer everyone is looking for, since Jack isn’t that bright and Luann isn’t that strong.

thank Gawd for take-out and delivery. Resorted many times when wasn’t “presentable” for going out in public. Great American inventions!

Wow! A girl that is good for something besides creating anxiety.

Love grows on the side of the road, blooms in a burger drive-thru, matures with time.

“Little Jack” better be at least nine inches long or Jack’s gonna be pretty useless to women; but I guess Luann already has a heads up on that.

Oh, oh! Where will “soaked” take us in tomorrow’s (arc ending?) strip. I can recognize a set-up when I see one.

In the spirit of the political season, let me say, “I am Luanaphile and I approve of this story line.”

Am i the only one who likes Jack? He clearly treats Luann well … he wouldn’t be in this story if it was going nowhere. I think things will “develop”. And… he is a hunk. And seems to have smarts too and is a gent.

Now this is what friendship and actually liking another enough to place that person before oneself can look like.

Very nice today, again! For my two cents worth…. I would like them to go and get the pizza in the pizza place and eat there. Being a little “messy” is not IMO that big a deal and is not a reason to avoid that aspect of the experience. And, pizza at the place is, IMO much more fun than take-out pizza, and more enjoyable a food choice than a burger. But, that is just my opinion.

I’m in my 50s. I’ve changed plenty of tires. I have NEVER – not once – gotten dirt or grease on my face from doing it.

A little diddy about Jack and Luann…..

I suspect even the Evanses don’t yet know if this pair is going to be an item.

I think it’s just that Luann is a little hesitant to go into a public place (restaurant) looking so smudged and in messy clothes, that’s all, thanks to the lousy weather. Jack doesn’t care … it’s certain he’s played football in the rain and mud, ran drills, or just practiced in lots of crappy weather – only to immediately go out with friends for a bite to eat.

He’s impressed, and now approaching being loyal to Luann, in whatever capacity that may become. And Luann hasn’t refused spending more time with him, drive thru or not! I’m still not sure that this will lead to romance, but that door is still open a bit.

Forget pizza or hamburgers.

Jack knows how to make dates ‘memorable’.

(Sigh) “Just like a woman.” Concerned about her (dirtied, oil-stained) appearance, she would rather not be seen in the pizza parlor, and so suggests the burger drive-through instead.

How will Jack handle this? Will he do it her way? (Probably.)
