When I want my cat, which is totally black, to come, I whistle, (like for a dog), and call “Here Miles”. He immediately comes running. Of course he does think that he’s a dog and I always give him a doggy treat whenever he does what I want. He plays dead, rolls over, shake hands, knuckle bomb, sit, stay, and several other tricks that people claim you can’t make a cat do. Also he just loves to have his belly tickled and ears scratched, I wish that I could figure how to put a picture of my dogs on here.
Although I have an indoor cat, I have fed some feral cats. One was black and white, like this one. I called him “Sylvester.” Eventually he would run up to me. But then he stopped coming around. I do feed other feral cats.
None of my cats know the word ‘kitty’. They all answer to their names. Well, all except our youngest who has brain problems from poor care during her first couple of weeks, before we rescued her and saved her life.
Ouch! This one hit close to home for me today. One of my precious indoor cats (twin to the other) got out of my apartment somehow. I’ve been looking for him all morning, and I have no idea when he actually got out. He’s never been outdoors and I live on a busy street. Prayers for him finding his way home please……WAAAA!
My girls don’t respond to “kitty”, they do however respond to their name. All four of them are rescues and none of them go outside. I have two that would love to go outside but there are too many hazards (people, cars, bears, coyotes – although I haven’t heard them since the bobcat moved into the woods behind my backyard. Anyways, they all have to stay indoors.

No one ever “gets” a cat. Cats do the choosing.

just what they need – another cat

That looks like something that’d happen to us. Over the last 9 years, we’ve brought 15 feral cats in the house & socialized them.

Luddy won’t mind. He’s discovered that exerting his independence gets him a night out – with the girls! It’s springtime! PARTAAY!

After the last two day’s strips, will Arlo name this cat “Schrödinger”? (And is Ludwig’s last name actually “Boltzmann”?)

If you feed it, you’ll never get rid of it.

You’ve never lived until you’ve been owned by a cat.

I always called my cats by their names. Euchre, Zeus, Indy, Matuese, Newby. Never attracted strange ones.

Cats can respond to their name, Use the NAME.

The proper way to call a cat is “Here (expletive) + (name of cat).”

This is one of my all-time favorites! (And the accompanying true-life story.)
