That was great of Tiffany to offer sage advice to Luann. After all, Tiffany has just come through some very negative things in her life. Tiffany is not letting all that keep her down.
Tiffany is one of those, who is espousing the “Enlightenment – Extra Lite” to others around her a life lesson. Maybe, someday, she’ll truly understand.
Well, Tiffany had a few weeks of training under her belt. I’d say she’s indeed ready for her own talk show, now! Helping Luann here is the least she can do.
-
So what, if she has to put her movie career on hold, to help so many people? If that’s what it takes, then so be it! She can be a model, and a “self-help expert”, like the kind on public TV…
Tiffany has confused “get rid of negativity” with “pretending that your problems don’t exist”. I hope that a day she’ll understand how the two things are different.
I said I wasn’t going to comment any more but I can’t resist this one. Doesn’t it seem like Tiffany doth protest too much in terms of constantly trumpeting that she is accepting herself? I don’t think she is. I think she’s not happy with herself because she doesn’t look like she used to, but she’s trying to make the best of it. If she were really genuinely happy with herself, she wouldn’t be making put-down remarks to others, especially those who stuck by her and didn’t kick her when she was down. Just my opinion; some ruminations for a Saturday morning. Please do not attack. It’s only a comic strip, but in some ways it does reflect life.
Amazing. Luann won’t admit she’s really interested in Jack unless there’s competition from Tiffany. Tiffany gives this to her. The funny thing is Tiffany is a good match for Gunther and Luann is good with Jack. Nil fits Bernice but minimalist with theoretical help doesn’t mean success. What could be interesting is some who could bring Leslie more centered; return of Delta?
Romance, so many feel and imply romance, even me. It’s hard to not do that, but that is not the point to this arc. Tiffany expressed herself in her “advice” to Luann, she has changed in that she is secure in herself for herself, not because of her personal family situation (meaning diffident Dad, and evil Ann). I really could not blame her for that, at least she is true to herself. Luann is Luann, not a glove touched her, as befits the name character. If there is meant to be romance that remains for future arc’s but here we saw where the main protagonist, and her main protagonist are at this point.
Unless the others behaviour directly effects, its never a good idea to offer unasked for advice. On the other hand Tiff has a point – she spoke to her accomplishments and strengths. Luann still isn’t comfortable speaking to her strengths, which does make me think she hasn’t accepted them yet. That might be ok in school, but I don’t want to see her in a job interview, especially as for Luann this is a carrer path, for Tiff just a job. Also, Tiff was nice enough not to snark around behind Luanns back and offered her judjment to her to her face. Not a fan of either girl really but so far coming down in favor of Tiff.
LuAnn’s farewell to Jack sure looks like an attempt to snatch the attention prize. And why would she think of Jack as a physical trainer? She so much as told him he’d be a great vet at their last meeting. Either Luann has more that friends interest in Jack or has developed some after this run-in with Tiffany.
I see a Luann-Tiffany tug-o-war coming with Jack as Stretch Armstrong.
You know what? Right about now, or in the not too distant future, Luann is gonna REEEEEEEEALLY wished She had invited Professor Zebo instead of Jack as the “Special Guest,” this past week.
Or at the very least, invited Magician Gunth….., Oh I’m SORRY! Invited the "Nerd-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named, because it’s not “HIS” friggin’ Comic Strip!!!" ;)
Luannn is trying to drum up enthusiasm for the kids for Jacks exit, You know how like when your kid sees a caterpillar and your like WOW! look at that. Simple.
Delving into the mind of GnC once again: It appears that GnK may be realigning (or re-aligning) characters and character relationships recently. Ann Eiffel was a major disruptive influence. She nabbed Tiff’s dad. Causing Tiff to go into a depressive funk with Gunther, then indicating an interest in Les (apparently reciprocated at the dinner), then gaining weight. Ann reestablished a relationship with Les, of a sort, with the lingerie parties. Tiff and Les hook up in a failed attempt to dissuade Ann from her gold digger relationship with “the dad.” Les then becomes related to Gunther through marriage and may become related to Tiff; again via marriage. YIKES! so what happens then? Les and Gunther take up residence looking like Archie and Edith Bunker no less. Then, Luann and Tiff line up for a classic (if archaic) tussle over Luann’s latest male interest character. And take it to the bank… it is Jack. Looks like back to old school Luannverse.
Are we lining up for a ménage à fouwah ? With Luann, Jack, Tiffany and… who?… Gunther or Les??? Or would that be a ménage à cinco?
For me, this has been a rather mediocre story plot this week. However, given the weakness of basically the entire week, today read to me as a little bit better than the other days (M-F). I will try to explain why I feel today is better than the rest of the week below.
For me, I am still seeing in both Tiffany and Luann a lot of passive aggressive animosity. That seems quite obvious. The term folks have been saying, “Frennemy” does seem to fit them both still at this stage. To me, this degree of “Frennemy” behavior feels like it has been significantly stronger in the negative sense this week than it has been in quite a while. For me, it has felt that there has been a gradual thawing of Luann and Tiffany’s relationship during the time they both have been in college. But, this week feels like a significant regression. Except perhaps for today.
In today’s comic, I sense in Tiffany’s words both the “Frennemy” sort of passive aggressive behavior but also what reads to me as a sincere and somewhat public admittance of Tiffany’s insecurities and how it is important to work to overcome them. I do believe that Tiffany is trying to have Luann see her own insecurities in much the same way that Tiffany is becoming aware of her own.
So, for today, I take a bit of solace in the notion that I still feel both Tiffany (as shown today) and Luann (not shown today, but shown some in the “Ann Eifel” thread) are still navigating on the path to be less negative and less toxic towards each other.
Well, this misadventure at Kids 1st has been a flop for everyone except Jack (totally oblivious) and maybe the kids. —In other words, for Luann and Tiffany….
Luann and Tiffany, are Greg’s only strong characters, the rest are B-team, and some are just throwaways. Bernice is still weak, but Tara shows a lot of potential and is well drawn. Time to bring her up to the big leagues?
