I was hoping for a little MORE Juicy Gossip concerning Tom Farrell and Ann E, courtesy of R.A. Bernice.

Well Lu, looks like your ‘destiny’ classroom-wise, is currently entwined with Mr. Jack.

Pretty soon, you MAY have to decide “To Be or NOT to Be,” with this guy. And as a reminder, You can date a guy and not be in LOVE with him…….,

The Class, yes… but they also seem to be able to relax and enjoy each others’ company when they get together outside of class. Luann’s “going there” in her mind is not just the result of an overactive teenager’s imagination.

First I am a little surprised that Greg or Karen missed the necklace in panel 3. I did like the embarrassed eye diverting in that panel though, it denotes so much. Down deep does Luann have “chemistry” for Jack she does not want to admit? I still think they will eventually be in a serious romantic relationship, if Jack secretly wants, or is at least open too. It could be one of those situations where her heart pines or will pine for a young man (Mr. Man) who may not be aware of that, and is on the friend level allegedly. Friends end up lovers, romance, married, so who knows? That third panel says a lot.

Perhaps Luann finally realizes Jack maybe is potential boyfriend material.

I honestly suspect that Luann was still thinking about Bernice’s negative reaction to the fact that she (Luann) didn’t seem to be trying to get with Jack, and she was almost answering Bernice…

Jack is trying hard enough to get recognize but Luann is playing hard to get.

Hey Evans! The 1950s called and wanted their joke back.

She confirmed for all of us on how she feels about Jack. He’s just a pal. Friend-zoned. So, it baffles me as to why G & K introduced him if he’s not destined to be a romantic interest? I imagine they are trying the idea of having Luann befriend a guy without any romantic interest. I just think they could draw Jack better. He looks like a well-dressed caveman. I think Quill was the best looking male in the strip.

Relationships change with time. When I first met my wife I really didn’t like her, she was blonde, and I had always dated brunettes, and she seemed a little too ‘chatty.’ Our personalities just didn’t seem to click…at first. A year later it would have taken the entire Chinese Army to keep me away from her…and yeah, we became friends first. That first meeting was about 36 years ago, and we’ve been married 34 of those. I know they’re just ‘comics’ but comics can indeed mimic life quite often.

If Tiffany was to go walking by, I wonder what chemistry would be at play then. Luann just plain flubbed up in her thinking.

As long as she can make Tiff jealous, she does, and nothing more. (Though we know now that Jack didn’t mean that kind of chem.)And that’s why she has that phew! Or oops! face.

Jack is a nice guy, women hate nice guys and fall for the jerks. Not all but enough to show a trend. Then again, I doubt she would connect with Les.

Jack and Luann would be a great couple.

The quickest way to get out of friendzone is draw interest elsewhere. If it from a mutual friend even better.

Maybe I’m out in left field, but would Greg/Karen throw a monkey wrench into this and we would find out that Jack is gay? I mean, he’s nice and friendly and all that, but he hasn’t really shown romantic interest in Luann or ANYONE. And that might be revealed just when Luann decides she DOES have romantic feelings towards Jack. --I had a similar thing happen to me once.

I wish there would be some development. In the last few weeks, this comic seems to have gone from real story-telling to just gags.

I like the Jack-Luann relationship. Jack has the potential to mature from dumb jock into an educated veterinarian student. Kinda how Brad’s love for Toni changed him from couch potato to brave, fit, firefighter.

Hmm. This will be interesting. Chem class. I will miss Zebo, but perhaps the new instructor will be entertaining as well. Perhaps Luann and Jack are also taking an art class and we will see Zebo later. Thoughts:

1. I wonder if Tara will be in the Chemistry class as well?

2. If she is, does she already know Jack (I do not recall any comics featuring this.)?

3. Might Nil show up for Chemistry too? That would be good.

The thing I hope to NOT have happen:

If Tara is there… I hope there is no Luann/Tara competition over Jack planned by Greg. It does not seem like how Tara would behave anyway…. but I am just stating that I hope that does not occur.

Maybe biology will work out, too.

Jack doesn’t have a clue that Luann misunderstood him, does he? Jack is a nice fellow, but he’s not quite the brightest bulb in the box. Now, what are the odds that they will be lab partners?

Luann did not seem to mind the thought that there might be chemistry between them. After all, she has seen the generally unseen when he posed in art class.

Man, it seems that perhaps you did not like Chemistry in school? The coloration of the Chemistry building hallway is so gray, darkish and gloomy, it has an almost Noir feel. :)

People, people, it’s a comic strip.

I also believe Jack could plausibly become Luann’s boyfriend, not because he would be an interesting boyfriend but because the Evanses would have an interest in using him frequently. Like Frank DeGroot and Dirk, Jack’s character serves to mock men. I figured that out when the strip depicted Jack as lovable but pathetically ignorant.

Some comparisons to 9Chickweed are being brought up. The difference is that Luann characters seem to be like I know them personally. 9CW is mostly just good artwork.

As an aside, it was pretty clever to work a chemistry class and lab into the arc here. Certainly a set-up for more gags and innuendoes to come. :o)

duplin: Oh, the strip absolutely does mimic real life. In fact, I wrote an article about that, particularly the visual rhetoric of this strip. Many times, it does reflect real life. Although I have sometimes criticized Greg Evans for the way he depicts some of the characters, I’m drawn to the strip just because it is compelling and true-to-life.

Since Luann is going into Chemistry lab right now, that is what she would be thinking about. The Chemistry class, not the relationship with Jack.

I get the feeling that Jack is the sort of fellow who will need to be told directly that Luann likes him. He will be polite and act only as a pal because he thinks that is what she wants and he would never force the issue. But if Luann is too subtle in her hints that she wants something more he may miss them.

Chemistry class. An appropriate place for a catalyst, such as Luann slipping her arm through Jack’s arm. It is a friendly, non sexual gesture that just says, “I know you and I like you.” Jack could not do the same thing without seeming a little too aggressive.
