I guess the fever and vomiting were not enough proof. She needed this to realize he’s really sick.

Wow that’s bad luck for Calvin. Not missing school.

Yeah, if Calvin doesn’t even care that he’s not getting out of going to school because he’s sick, he’s REALLY sick. So you’d BETTER run to call the doctor, Mom!

She has pockets. Women frequently complain about clothes with no pockets.

NOW you panic!

My deal was scarlet fever, fairly rare and diagnosed by our family doctor (house call, remember those?). I was about 8 but I can still recall the intensity of the fever and the hallucinating effect of the room telescoping in and out even when I closed my eyes. When the fever finally broke, it was the most delicious and exhilarating feeling I believe I ever experienced.

I remember when I had pneumonia when I was very young. I still remember how my breathing sounded….. like trees breaking and falling in the forest. It was so bad that stop being able to see, that’s when my folks rushed me to the hospital. This was back in the early 60’s. Today, a kid with pneumonia would go to hospital a lot sooner.

This must be serious if he wants to miss a Saturday.

Wait for it. Calvin will make a try for his usual Saturday fun. As for mom. Doctor making a house call? Not likely, even 30 years ago.

Here’s one for mom…

“Kids are different today”

I hear ev’ry mother say

Mother needs something today to calm her down

And though she’s not really ill

There’s a little yellow pill

She goes running for the shelter of a mother’s little helper

And it helps her on her way, gets her through her busy day

Today you just take them to Doc in a Box and whoever pops up treats your kids. No more doctor who knows your kid.

Good luck making a doctor’s appointment on a Saturday…

I used to think Mom was rushing to the phone because it was Saturday and he wasn’t missing school, so she was trying to get him better ASAP so she could send him back to school. Reading today’s comments, however, I realize this isn’t the case.

Resourceful, caring, intuitive, smart, a hard worker, a good communicator, and tough. *CALVIN’S MOM FOR PRESIDENT! *

Mom would have to go Immediate Care as a doctor’s office is closed on Saturday.

The look in Calvin’s mom is the look of a deeply worried mom! That is so sweet! ( sniff ! ! ! ) :’(

When I was stationed in Japan and England, I saw that in both of those countries, on Saturday school was open.
