And on the flip side, I miss my father – especially as a much older man.
It’s one of life’s little ironies that come to mind. I remember towards the last day’s of his life how one nice day we went for a stroll – me pushing his wheelchair and us just talking. As we walked, in my mind, I thought how funny it was that when I was a child, he pushed me in my stroller and cared for me and that now the roles reversed as now I pushed him in his chair – and cared for him. It was our last time together but I still hold that memory well in my heart.
My kids have many, many fond memories of times I spent playing with them as they were growing up. What they do not understand is, that as much fun as they were having, I was having 4 times as much fun…because there were 4 of them. It was less about being a dad and more about just enjoying the hell out of the time I spent with them.
One of the most repeated comic themes. I enjoy this joke every time I see it. We have to be reminded every once in a awhile. Stephen Pastis are you wishing you could go back in time?
And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon,Little boy blue and the man on the moon.“When you comin’ home ?”“Son, I don’t know when. We’ll get together then. You know we’ll have a good time then.”
Haven’t seen the crocs for a while (that I remember) but its cute that they’re still remembering how traumatic it was for papa croc that his son was off on his own more :-)
Sometimes, when my boys are wearing thin on me, I think back to my father and what he would have done, then do it differently. He was a great example-of what a Dad shouldn’t be like. Fortunately, I’m retired and have loads of time for my boys. They might have to wait a bit to get the latest expensive ‘thing’ but they’ve got dad like ugly on an ape.
I’ve only got one parent left, I try to spend as much time around my old man as I can. I grew up knowing great grandparents, grandparents on both sides, and both parents. The Great grands died when I was just a kid, but then over a period of about two years, lost all but my father. Cherish the time you have. Good cartoon, excellent reminder!

For some of us that song is way too true and it is also a bit late to do much about it either.

Grandkids, if you’re blessed to have them and be around them, give you a second time around. But even they grow quickly.

After losing my dog less than a year ago, the same thing can be said for pets. They live even shorter lives.
