It used to be that you could get the local e-newspaper for free with our printed subscription. Now you can get just the e version for a much lesser fee. My hubby is interested in saving several hundreds of dollars each year but hasn’t called to get rid of that hard copy sitting at his breakfast table. Maybe when the next year payment is due?
I lived in Louisiana and had a fireplace I didn’t need. I lived in Houston and had a fireplace I didn’t need. Now I live in Montana and don’t have a fireplace.
Was visiting my son and decided to make a fire for the kids. I used every piece of paper and kindling I could find, but COULD NOT get a fire started. When my son came home he explained that you can’t start a fire with white oak. It’s like trying to set rocks on fire. You have to start with a softer wood and then add the oak once it is burning well. Live and learn

1 or 2 paper towels and cooking grease or vegetable oil. It safely burns for several minutes like a giant hot candle.

Might have been a more private need for the paper. Sears catalogs are getting hard to come by these days.

Our old Nook made extremely poor kindling. You would THINK a Kindle Fire would do the trick, but nooooo.

I use pine cones. They burn really well.

How about one of those exploding. Samsung Galaxys. That should start a nice fire.

A friend tried to start his fireplace with naphtha. BAD idea, especially since he let it “soak in” first.

You can’t pack boxes with an app, either.

House has two fireplaces, but my wife and both hate them. One is boarded up and the other has insulation stuffed in the flue.

Lint from the clothes dryer works great and you can pack a lot of it when camping.

Since we don’t have a bird cage to line, that’s about all we need the newspaper for… except the funnies and crossword. :o\

The door bothers me. Looks like the hand is reaching around the door (which is cracked open). but the handle is on the wrong side for that.

Must be one of the few fortunate people that doesn’t get junk mail.

I believe there are apps that will display a fire place or a yule log for Christmas/New Years.

Our neighborhood has a FB group for free stuff. So if someone wants to post a request for free newspapers, they can.
