Even when asleep Puck and Elvis are still fighting their own monsters. Next time, you can be the hero, Lupin. Such good boys. I hope there will be bacon for breakfast.
LOL- that last panel is precious, and evidence of the reality that The Woman and Man actually have five kids (and are doing supremely well, thankyouverymuch..)
Megan spent some time outlining her plan to Tre-C and Max, but still the next few hours passed like they were walking through swamp grass. Megan was happy that the air was dead calm; she was being cautious but didn’t have to focus on their scents traveling on the wind. The Tuxie was the definition of focus as she led the march back to where Tre-C said she met and spoke with Baywolf. “I’ll go up to the fence and see if I can get his attention,” Tre-C offered, and she slowly moved ahead of Megan and Max. “And no one else’s, kitten..” “I won’t even disturb a leaf…” the stealthy Tabby whispered.
Good morning, orbsters and orbabies. I wish Yum Yum would drape as gently as Elvis seems to have draped.
She and I have had a long philosophical discussion this morning as to why it is not couth to wake mommy up at 4:15AM just because the newspaper was delivered. Also, once mommy has been awakened and strongly urged out of bed, why one must NOT come between mommy and her coffee. The result was that Yum Yum stomped off in a huff to snooze with Paul. Oh well, it just means that I will get more knitting done, doesn’t it?
Love the Elvis scarf! My Tigger’s greatest joy in life was to be carried that way. He would have stayed on my shoulder indefinitely, purring and napping, but was such a big boy I would eventually have to set him down, long before he was ready!
I didn’t know Elvis was in the habit of chewing envelopes? Made me wonder if Elvis also chewed the mail but maybe not if this is the People’s mail box.
Hello, everyone! Tomorrow Saturday December 1st I will be opening my Etsy shop at 10am Pacific Time to sell some original ink and watercolor paintings! Here is the link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/GeorgiaDunnStudio (although it is closed now!) I will have Breaking Cat News watercolors, from artwork used in the calendars, the new book coming out in March, promotions, and just for fun! There should also be some new Christmas and holiday cards in the Zazzle shop next week! https://www.zazzle.com/breaking_cat_news
I hope this is good news, and that everyone has a great Friday!
Its amazing how progress can be good and, well…not bad, but worrisome. We were in the monster pen last night giving Bandit her last mouthful of the second course of worming meds. Easy peasy. Tilt (the cat), pinch (the jaw) and squirt.
I then scooped up a noticeably calmer Trixie in the towel. Too soon to tell but hopefully the Feliway is working. Anyway, one of her back paws was sticking out and I took a closer look at what I had previously thought was just rough outdoor cat feet. I don’t know about you, but this thin skin is a bit leery of feral cat feet.
Her rear paws were grayish. I thought the pads were possibly scarred from frostbite or something. Nope. It was all hardened kitty litter goo. We use the clumping stuff, but its all the same base. Clay with a bentonite mix. It was clumped to her fur, clotted between her kitty toes…..uggh.
Lisa is more observant than I and spends longer periods in the monster pen. Once she told me I realized she was correct. Trixie rarely ever bathed her kittens and we have never once seen her groom herself. She was scruffy when she came in but we figured that was a product of being an overworked mom out in the elements. Nope. Somewhere along the line she has lost the habit of grooming.
So she is in my lap partially wrapped in the towel. Head sticking out one end and a rear paw and tail from the other. Lisa gave me a warm damp washcloth and I gingerly started wiping the foot. She made no sounds, no struggle so I continued. It was only then as the surface layer came off that I discovered all the crud clotted between her pads. Holy Moly.
I got a little more aggressive in the cleaning. Not a peep, not a twitch. Scrub, rub, pinch and pull. It was so badly matted that I had to use a tiny pair of scissors to cut the fur out from between her pads. Scrub, snip, scrub, snip. I had to use a fingernail to peel around the edges of the pad. I thought for sure she was going to bite me for that, but still not a peep. Only the slightest little tail tip twitch for the worst of it.
I gave her a couple minutes to rest then repeated the process on the other foot.
That was the disturbing. And the good. I am just stunned that she tolerated the process. As you ll know, once you can get past the appalled mortification that you are playing with their feet, most kitties just LOVE having their little tootsies rubbed. Get in there between the pads and they melt. But this was a whole different sort of beast. It could not have been comfortable or pleasant, at least during the process.
That she sat for it is an amazing leap of progress in acceptance. But I worry a bit about the failure to groom. I have never seen this behavior, aside for unfixed Toms. Especially old ferals. Those boys wear their stink like a badge of honor.
Any input will be appreciated. Who knows, the spay may help. It definitely causes other behavior changes.
Anyway, that’s my story for today. I’ll keep you posted with developments as they occur.

Since this seems to be the end of this story I wonder if that means the Christmas special starts tomorrow on Dec 1.

I just realized… It’s winter, so another special is out, so for the older fans… will “The Bookstore Cat” make a return?
