It sure beats the usual nasty barbs he throws at her.

Still remember walking out of my bedroom and finding my folks in a passionate embrace in the hall. Didn’t have a problem with it.

After finding themselves neck deep in work and life, parents probably need to do more of that.

Kind words and physically touching someone are the best medicine around. Cost nothing, needs to be repeated everyday up to and including one’s last day. And this will strengthen and refresh both parties soul.

This is a touching strip.

Sometimes seeing your friends go through trouble makes you realize how good you have it. It is tragic for them, but don’t let the hole in their boat, sink yours.

Kids being grossed out by their parents being affectionate will never not be funny. Here, it also helps deflate the “sappiness” of the dialogue. Lynn was often pretty careful about that back in the day, and it helped keep the strip a bit more grounded.

Leaving little love notes for the one you love to find also strengths their self-esteem and the relationship.

They will always need it, and, hopefully, they will always find it in each other. Only be concerned when you stop seeing it.

When I married my second wife, we had a simple ceremony before all to express our fidelty and promise to foresake all others. To show how serious it was, we signed an oath….in blood.

I never let a day go by without telling my wife (at least once or twice) that I love her – because…I really do !!

One of the things I have always loved about this strip is the underlying relationship between John and Elly. They are loving, supportive and really “there” for one another. Everything else, including the occasional “boorish” jokes John makes stems from that base.

A demonstration is way better than a speech.

Interesting, though, that a man has to be careful of every word uttered, but wives can say anything they want!

Interestingly enough, after all that, neither character actually says, “I love you.”

Daily. Several times a day. As often as you like.

That is true kids but…It doesn’t hurt to hear the words “I Love You” every once in a while and especially in moments where it’s needed most.

Especially as time goes on, they need to do that!
