This is interesting as an arc- the story is mostly told through Michael’s FRIEND, not Michael, and thus we get the biggest focus on Gordon we’ve yet had. Most of the way through, he’s just been a source of humor and antics (“HORMONE ATTACK!!!”), but this actually gives him some depth and purpose.
It may be my memory, but …… Last time through, Gorden was like Charlie Brown and the Little Red Haired Girl. All he did was fantasize about Allyson “Spandex” Cremore. Nice to see this time around he has a chance at a relationship.
I appreciate Gordo more now…. I had forgotten about this arc from the first time around. Very nice.
Small aside… it is odd, however, that Gordon is in the FRONT seat of the taxi. At least I have never seen that being common when the backseat is empty. Makes me wonder if the taxi driver is a relative of Gordo’s?
Michael is the usual doofus when it comes to realizing that the differences between his school and home life as opposed to those shown on TV are akin as acting is to reality. In past strips he has wondered why people and life around him is not like it is on TV.

I thought only girls fantasize like that, that with boys, it is more the game of catch than romance?

“Who says television kills the imagination?!!”
To answer Gordon’s question, we must read the poem “Television” by Roald Dahl.
https://www.poemhunter.com/poem/television/
Quoting the crucial part:
IT ROTS THE SENSE IN THE HEAD!
IT KILLS IMAGINATION DEAD!
IT CLOGS AND CLUTTERS UP THE MIND!
IT MAKES A CHILD SO DULL AND BLIND
HE CAN NO LONGER UNDERSTAND
A FANTASY, A FAIRYLAND!
HIS BRAIN BECOMES AS SOFT AS CHEESE!
HIS POWERS OF THINKING RUST AND FREEZE!
HE CANNOT THINK — HE ONLY SEES!

There often is a huge difference between fantasy and reality.

In my case, growing up, TV fueled my imagination! In fact, it was more like rocket fuel!

In real life (yes, I know this is a comic strip) she would have had vomit breath. Ew.

From Calvin & Hobbes:
Calvin & Hobbes are reading The Communist Manifesto
Calvin: “It says here that ‘Religion is the opiate of the masses’. I wonder what that means?”
TV Set: “It means Karl Marx hadn’t seen anything yet.”
