The sunny spot in my house is on top of the microwave oven which is next to a south facing window. I kept a folded towel on it so Jasper would have a cozy nap spot.
We recently moved and the new house doesn’t have the nice windowsills of the old one. We’re working on getting some cat trees or alternate perches, but for now the cats are somewhat irked at us…
Yesterday Ladykat posted news of Skykey from his wife. Our dear Skykey passed Dec 10. The full message is yesterday’s featured comment with 60+ comments, so you can use the back arrow to yesterday to read it plus all the tribute comments. My heart is too heavy still to add more today.
Good morning and happy Purrsday, orbsters and orbabies. We had a few inches of snow overnight. We don’t get much sun in our apartment for Yum Yum to bask in as our apartment faces northwest. Yum Yum spends most of her days on our laps.
Hi, everyone, Skykey’s wife and I need your collected expertise. She has set up a profile here on Go Comics and has tried leaving comments. Instead of our little blue flag, she only sees the red trashcan and her messages are not being posted. Can anyone out there clue us in on what she may be doing wrong? Or is this one of Go Comics’ famous glitches?
My spare bedroom became the “kitty room” 23 years ago when I took in a stray pregnant cat that I named Mama Kitty. She raised her babies in there, and it became a lounging place and frequently a “time out” place for all of my kitties. Eventually I got rid of the bed and put an old couch and chair in there, perfect excuse for politely discouraging overnight human guests. It is now occupied exclusively by Cinders, an older cat I took in almost two years ago when her elderly owner passed away. No good deed goes unpunished. Cinders was an only cat, and was allowed to roam outside, which is not safe in my area. She is not confined but is an alpha female, hates other cats (and is frequently moody with humans), and my three big boys are terrified of her because when she does venture out into the house she likes to “charge” them. I keep telling them that she is just a bully and will flee if they fight back, but they scatter at the speed of light. However, there is very gradual improvement so maybe in another year or so…???
Sunspots are always bigger and better in winter! When spring comes and the sun doesn’t reach the bed anymore, my cat has actually tried asking me to move it. I was very surprised at how clear her instructions were. Sit in the sun on the floor, meow, jump on the bed, meow pointedly, repeat. I mean, I do control the curtains, but not the angle of sunlight, sorry kitty.
My sunny spot is the steps outside my studio/back porch in the early morning. It can be freezing cold with wicked winds and both open doors will block the wind and the sun will warm the spot by at least 20 degrees (honest!) There is nothing better on a cold morning than to sit on the steps with the morning coffee, a dog under each arm (where they each nudged their noses), the cat curled beside us, listening to the wind blowing through the eucalyptus. Too bad my Christmas break ends next week but what a treat mid winter!
Hi guys! I like to think of myself a writer, so I thought I might try my hand at finishing Skykey’s amazing story as a memorial to him. I admit it is not as good as the rest, but if you want me to keep trying please tell me!
Baywolf, the dog he had just failed to kill, was standing in the center of the yard, teeth bared. Behind him were others, massive brutes built for the kill. With a commanding bark, Baywolf charged for the men, barking as loud as he could, “BAD! MEN! STOP BAD MEN!”
It was a perfectly normal day at the hospital. The lady at the phone picked up the call. “911, what’s your emergency?” But there was no voice, only gunshots and shouting.
As Megan had instructed, Maxie and Tre-C mostly kept back during the fight. You could hear them for a mile in each direction, the gunshots and the baying of the dogs. Tre-C perked her finely-tuned ears up. She could just hear the sirens. Cats from across the town were coming to see what was happening, slinking through the shadows. Tre-C joined Megan on the roof. “Good job, kitten!” Megan said, touching the tabby’s back with her tail. Tre-C beamed with pride.
Lately, Russel’s spot has been under our artificial C-tree which is about 6 ft in front of a gas space heater. His preferred spot is on top of my laptop on the computer desk, but my grandaughter spilled a drink on it and killed it. So he relocated. I suspect he will re-locate to the desk when we get a new ’puter.
Sun puddles aren’t just for cats! My old apartment had a south-facing floor-to-ceiling window, & I used to spend winter afternoons curled up on the rug next to it with pillow & blanket.

Another month and the sun will be positioned just right to provide perfect sun spots for my darlings in the cat room.

Ah, is there anything better than a cozy, sunny windowsill?

I’m surprised that Lupin hasn’t called for a station break and jumped up to confirm Puck’s confirmation of Elvis’s full-on cozy report.

“Lupin, it is full speed, non-stop COZY.”… Huh?!
Is that like being a full contact couch potato?! :)
OR, is this like the movie, SPEED (The NO-Motion Picture)?! ;)
