“Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, Bless the bed that I lay on. Four corners to my bed, Four angels ’round me spread: One at the head, one at the feet And two to guard me while I sleep…”
Now I lay me down to sleep/. I pray the Lord my soul to keep/. And since the Lord is great and good/. Let us thank him for our food/. By his hands we all are fed/. Just never ever in the bed.
Earl’s version of Grace before meals: Rub a dub dub, thanks for the grub, yay God. That’ll manage to offend some as well, but then again, some people are only happy when they are offended.
It’s not a bad thing that Earl didn’t teach Nelson the second half of that little prayer. As a kid I found it a bit scary, referencing my possible death. Made me a bit scared of going to sleep!
I was thinking the same thing; possibly a different cartoon, or a totally different ’prayer" especially this being MLK holiday. I enjoy Pickles; and I hope to continue reading the series. First time I ever felt a need for a comment.
My dad’s version was, “Now I lay me down to sleep I pray the lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, just cover my face with a hot pancake.” He said if God didn’t have a sense of humor, there’d be no human race.

Pearl needs to have a talk with Earl or simply teach Nelson a new prayer.

I personally don’t think the Man would enjoy that last part.

Does the Lord use the same procedure for deciding who gets into heaven?

Not everyone is old enough to know that version. The current version says, “catch a tiger by the toe.”

Catch a Tiger by the toe but if it’s Tony, let him go because he works for frosted flakes!
