My thermos was always getting bashed, kicked, dropped, etc. And, it was rarely my doing. :P

Never had a thermos. Always took my lunch in a paper bag and bought milk at school. It was 3 cents and came in a small glass bottle. Now those dropped and shattered occasionally. I guess I’m really old. ;)

I remember those thermos bottles and HATED them. You tap them wrong and you got glass in your fluids. I still think it was some kind of marketing scheme to drive up sales.

Unfortunately the PBJ sandwich didn’t fare as well.

After going through two glass Thermos bottles in one school year (I was a teacher) my hubby bought me a stainless steel Aladdin one. It was marvelous! I still have it and in spite of dents and little paint left on the sides, it will still keep my coffee warm through the whole day. Not that I use it much anymore, since I am now a happily retired teacher after 43 years in the classroom.

I remember that when you broke the glass insert, you could go to the local hardware store and buy a replacement (the bottom of the Thermos screwed off so you could replace it).

I remember the glass thermos bottles in my old school lunch box and I never asked why they were replaced with thermos bottles with plastic liners. Now I have a quart thermos that I occasionally took to work or trips. It has a stainless steel liner. And no, I’ve NEVER left my lunch on the top of the car.

I remember a girl in my third-grade class dropped her thermos and shattered the glass insert. The teacher “carefully” poured her milk into the plastic cup and told her drink it anyway, as if no shards or splinters could possibly have gotten past her.

Gee, it is good to see Principal Spaetzel featured again! He is truthfully my favorite character on Frazz. I can always rely on him to be kind, congenial, usually introspective, and entertaining. Even his foibles are, IMO, great ones…. and only add depth to his character. I wish, demeanor-wise, I could be more easy-going like Principal Spaetzel is portrayed in virtually every situation myself.

In regards to the Thermos question…. for me, it has never been a real issue….. I am not fond of very “hot” temperatures of any food or beverage and am comfortable eating most anything at room temperature…. and tend to prefer every kind of beverage cold… but lukewarm is ok.

We could have so much less paper and plastic in our waters and landfills if only reusable shopping bags and food containers were marketed as appealingly as companies like Kleen Kanteen, Hyro Flask and Yeti and the like market their reusable drink containers. Or if people responded to their marketing like I do.

Though I don’t know how many people have to own how many more insulated steel mugs and tumblers than they need before the return starts to diminish.

My usual caveat concerning the principal is that he is usually drawn as somewhat of a slob, with coffee stains on his shirt or spilling from his mug. I am glad to see that is not the case this time.
