It would make sense that the first dishwasher misplacement incident would follow immediately after the dishwasherâs creation. Maybe we need correct dishwasher stacking techniques taught at school? We have to do what we can for the next generation!
Just saw this on TV yesterday. The first automatic dishwasher was invented in the 1880s (by a woman) and was hand cranked. Itâs on display in a museum in Portsmouth, Virginia. She got a patent on it and it evolved into the Whirlpool corporation.
Unlike a lot of arguments which are about matters of taste and therefore have no âcorrectâ conclusion, there are matters of efficacy which affect dishwasher loading, and therefore are amenable to facts and reason. Of course, I have no dishwasher but me, so no arguments here.
After my mother screamed that at me I stopped loading the dishwasher. I told her that I could not âdo it rightâ and she was more than happy to continue loading it. It took her about two years to figure that out and show me how to load that dishwasher.
It makes me think of my teen years, after my parents got a dishwasher. For all the talk we hear about kids not doing household chores, I was more than willing to do the dishes and place them in the dishwasher, but my Dad wouldnât allow me or anyone else in the house to do it since he was the only one who could âdo it rightâ! Maybe thatâs why, here 50 years later, I enjoy doing the dishes and/or loading and unloading the dishwasher so much!

Years ago my father complained that everyone was loading the dishwasher wrong, and that from now on only he would load it.
A week later, he asked why he was the only one loading the dishwasher.
