Been retired for a bit over a month and I love how I lose focus to what day of the week it is. If I have an appointment I let Google calendar remind me.
My Prince cat used to do that very thing when we returned from vacation. Had a neighbor feed him, water and change litter for us. Had to put Princey Boy down a while back. I miss him still…
I think the difference is Arlo has learned to focus on the near future for contentment. Janis seems to be the one trying to focus on the far future and so she is not so content.
Arlo is happy with the way things are. Janis wants more/different? Another unspoken conflict in this strip. Don’t get me wrong—it’s one of my favorites. I’d just like to see some more shakeups.
I’m wondering how they spent— was it a week, or only a weekend, I don’t know?— but they spent time at Gene and Mary Lou’s and the boat Arlo bought off Gus for $10 or whatever it was, never even got mentioned!! Why don’t they sell it? They apparently never set foot on it except to scrub it clean it once in a while, and they must be paying good-sized docking fees or whatever they’re called (I don’t own a boat so I’m not up on the nomenclature). I realize this is a comic not a documentary, ha ha, but it’s a somewhat realistic comic, so “inquiring minds want to know”…

I feel for you, Janis, where you are now can be very unsettling.

Luddy is happy.
And yes, the familiar patterns are so soothing that new plans just get kicked down the road…

Ah, yes. The comforting tyranny of contentment. I am looking forward to it – maybe less than a year away.

Forget about the future (besides a sound financial planning…) and enjoy life now :D

I think Luddy’s actually a dog, especially based on frame 1. :-)

Janis has forgotten the #1 rule of pillow talk: when Arlo’s head is on the pillow, talking should cease.

How come no one in the comics pays tribute to the simple joy of reading the comics each morning?

seek the pleasures in life, hedonism makes for more enjoyment than any of the temples/churches/mosque/synagogues.

Fun to travel but getting back home is pleasure. Your own critter, your own yard, your own bed, and best of all – your own bathroom.

Unfortunately the latest research shows that depression starts showing up in your 30’s and just compounds the older you get.

The bigger the plans you make the less able your retirement funding to accommodate them.
