I would say “easier to draw with only 3 fingers”

Don’t know about anyone else, but I was kind of looking forward to reading the comic book!

Side note, said comic book mentioned “screen friends,” strongly suggesting that it was no ordinary comic book, but a comic book rendition of television cartoon characters – though the obligatory image of a television set usually found on such comics was conspicuously absent…

So, Wally remembers he once had a five fingers hand… The four fingers hand looks like a mockery of a proper human-ish hand. Topsiders have five fingers. I can’t see haw any biological man/animal alteration would make people lose a finger. And what about the combination with hooved mammals ? So the mutation is not some genetic thing, it a toon-ification. Endtown goes deep.

What no love here anymore? And though we were told that what was done to the human race wasn’t some metamorphic disease which doesn’t leave many options. And some cartoon characters have one less digit on hands and feet.

Perhaps what Aaron is doing here is playing on the question of what is real and what is fake—in this case, what is a cartoon. It has been a long practice to draw cartoon figures with only three fingers and a thumb because it is easier to draw and four fingers can actually look a bit weird in a cartoon. Remember that on the false Edmund Fitzgerald, Wally was told that there was no mutagenic virus. That and this revelation now suggests that this whole mutation thing is just an illusion of some kind perpetrated by unknown forces. Maybe we are are dealing with Descartes’ Evil Demon.

Uh oh. Wally may be on the precipice of an existential crisis. Or possibly schism syndrome.

Too many things have happened to get to this point for me to believe that the morphing that started at the last war is an illusion—and that everything that has happened is some kind of dream for the characters in the strip. It has been revealed that Wally has no recollection of how he got to Eden from out of the desert. This would indicate some king of tampering with his memory. Suppose that among the things that he’s being pushed to forget is the fact that he’s become an anthro mutant. Perhaps there’s some kind of broadcast field in Eden that is pushing the illusion that the anthros are not anthros, but normal-shaped humans. This could start as subliminal suggestions. That bureaucrat that suggested that Wally should get some shoes “because we’re not barbarians” comes to mind. But I’ve guessed wrong before.

Is Endtown a giant VR world (Matrix) corrupted by a huge virus that changed those sleeping into some programmer’s love of funny cartoon animals (Schisms from the world trying to assert the animal characteristics onto the nonexistent anthros)? While those awake are corrupted into mutant monsters. The Topsider suits are those with still un-corrupted program tanks. The Brain drones are when a Topsider forced the minds into a non anthro role. So many “realities” being the worlds the Master Program is trying to create to deal with the massive corruptions of it’s main OS.

Wally needs to get off of his butt and head back to the raven, it’s obvious that the raven knows a lot more than Wally does. There are a lot of questions to be answered.

At least its not white gloves with three stripes. Apparently they perceive themselves there at Eden as human. As a song said……”Go to the mirror boy.” What is your reflection Wally?

For newer readers, I’ll point out that Wally spent years in the wilderness, surviving the dangers in a solitary life, by his preference. But it took its toll. He has a nervous twitch in the left eye (like Colonel Darling’s in Blackadder 4) and a broken right tooth.

Food for thought: if the reality that Endtowners know is merely a children’s comic book, then why is Endown self (and the surrounding area) the place for some pretty heavy, adult happenings (such as murder and political scheming)?

The old trope of cartoon characters only having 3 fingers. Never liked it. Like the laziness of typical cartoonists (not Neathery) to change heights and weights and basic floor layouts at the drop of a hat. Never accepted it. Even cats have 4 front toes, not 3.

Neathery decides to address that now in his cartoon.

    Dearest Neathery.

    This will be enjoyable.

I might’ve thought this happened before any of the Endtowncentric stuff, but for the characters known to be present.

I’m confused – why is having three fingers such a worrysome revelation if you know you have pointy ears and a tail? Most of us give up counting on our fingers when we’re young.

So he was never actually a human mutated into an anthro cat, he’s a cartoon cat from another universe who popped into this one and forgot how?

I think I have it figured out. Wally’s stumped by the four finger thing. That shouldn’t be an issue, he should be able to remember that he was once human. I think that when he entered Eden his memory was wiped of all memories of his human past. Something deep in his subconscious remembered he used to have five digits and now he needs to go back to Ravencroft to get answers.

Have you ever been driving along – going someplace that you have gone frequently (like work or home)? Going along the same route every day, then suddenly “wake up/come to” and for a moment not recognize where you are and have a momentary panic attack until your brain finally kicks in and puts you in the right place on your mental map? I think Wally is kind of having the same experience (only more deeply/intensely). His memory was wiped/altered so he was comfortable/not thinking about his situation – just lost in the day to day. But when he was made to question his day to day, suddenly he has lost his place and is trying to figure out where he is on that mental map. IMHO I could be way off as well. :o)
