In addition to his friends, Lawrence, Brian, and Gordon; Michael has apparently invited in some homeless kid. Oddly enough, this homeless kid has placed on the back of the sofa what appears to be a New York Yankees baseball cap except the logo is on the brim. I wonder if this is some subtle message about the way Lynn Johnston feels about Yankees fans.
@LeeCox No he obeyed the letter of the request. The spirit of the request was to be with the family and not with his buddies which is what he ended up doing instead of being at home with the family.
I’m in this stage right now. My teens are always heading off somewhere to do something… I seriously say the exact same thing to them that Elly did! I love it when they are here with their friends… all too soon they will be grown up and gone.
One possibility is that the boys already made plans to get together to watch an important (to them) sporting event or movie or something, and Elly didn’t know that.
Since Elly is a neatness freak and a martinet about manners, there would likely have been a ninth panel where Gordon was led out of the house by the scruff of his neck for having his feet on the furniture.

in the final panel, definitely not what Elly had in mind (@how the duck: I’m gonna reckon that’s David who once tried to get a free hot dog)

Uh, Elly — that’s not how a motel works. Didn’t you ever go to a motel when… Oh, never mind.
