I laughed, too. But then I remembered my dad’s Lay-Z-Boy recliner. That thing did require some effort to recline it and to return it to the upright position. Not to mention the bending motion might be beneficial for his back. It’s still exercise! (Yes, my favorite superhero just so happens to be Middle Age Man from SNL. Why do you ask?)
Although I empathize with Earl, I’m forced to agree with Opal. At my age, a sit-up is getting out of bed, a pull-up is what I do to my socks, and a push-up is what my head did through my hair long ago. I do walk everyday (weather permitting), but that’s about as much exercise as I get.

I’ll give Earl credit for those if he’s not using the handle.

I can hardly wait to see how Earl lazily does push-ups utilizing furniture.

He does pull-ups to prevent his pants from falling down.

I don’t see why not. He is sitting up each time.

It certainly takes an effort to force it out, although not quite as much to bring it back in.

If he could only do that and not spill his snacks while changing channels. That would be something!
