how does one wash only one side of a sheet in the washing machine?

I like it best in the spring through early fall when I can hang my sheets on the clothesline. The fabric softener/dryer sheet is yet to be invented that comes even close to that fresh smell of sheets dried outdoors on the clothesline.

That would be a good trick, Opal!

I think that all Earl cares about is that he has some sheets to slip into and fall asleep…

Every so often, I get the feeling that I have married Opal’s sister…

Tie Wash?

This is almost verbatim the conversation I had with my wife last week.

In the male dorms at U of IL in the early 1970’s, a maid came once a week to wash the bottom sheet, move the top sheet to the bottom, and give us a fresh top sheet. The female dorms did not have this service. No one blinked at the obvious sexism at the time.

First sign of autumn, yesterday I took off the linen sheets and put on flannel sheets. Second sign, my wife cranked the thermostat to 73, she is always freezing!

We hang our sheets on a clothes line and they do feel great.

Earl just loves to yank her chain…and she’s always ready to come back with a snarky remark….

Freshly laundered sheets don’t really feel any different to me. They do smell a lot better, and I comment on them every time. If earl has a weak sense of smell it might explain why he cannot tell the difference.

But surely they smell different?

If I shower before slipping between clean sheets, I detect a difference.

One explanation: He’s in P.J.s and has old age permanent nasal congestion.

I have to laugh. I changed the sheets on the bed just before I started reading my GoComics, this morning.

I like clean sheets, but it sure is getting harder and harder to put them on. Ahhhhh, the golden years!

Let me know how that works, Opal. . .

The day Earl was reading by the light of his phone, wasn’t he on the other side of the bed?

If it wasn’t so much work, I would have fresh sheets on my bed every single night. I love having freshly laundered sheets.

Remember the Katzenjammer Kids? Will never forget the comic in which they complain about being required to wash their hands before dinner, so Mama says “OK, just wash one  hand!”

…

And in the next frame, we see them standing at the sink, each washing one of the others’ hands

Or by hand.

It’s easy… You put half the sheet in the washing machine, and leave the other half hanging out!
