Initially, I thought that documents were paper documents. Then it occurred to me that she was referring to computer documents. I don’t know why that would be a problem; updates don’t usually cause that problem for me.

I had to turn off updates because they kept messing up my laptop. Eventually even that didn’t work anymore, because it would update anyway! I had to rename the folder to prevent it from happening. Now I get repeated error messages and warnings that I HAVE TO update the programs.

It’s my computer, it’s working fine, following your orders just makes it stop working.

Urgh. I was a beta tester for Windows 95. I lost count of how many reinstalls I had to do with that thing! The joys of working for MS. I was a chat host, helped set up MSN Chat, then moved to online chat hosting.

Along with being paid, I got a copy of Office everytime it updated and a discount so I could buy stuff for family :)

Worked o.k. with Windows 7. Tried Windows 10. What an unmitigated pile of crap. Candy Crush Crash Trash. Drivers, bloat, unstable….I just want to do some uninterrupted work and not fix/work-arounds. Spouse is 100% Apple. She never has problems.

I am going to Linux. Tried it and I can do my work from simulations to publishing.

She must have just installed macOS Catalina and discovered that none of the 32-bit software she has used for years works any more, leading to even more undesired updates.

Hell the most streamlined system they had was windows 3.1. All they needed to do was make a 3.1 that did not have dos hell to work around and it would have been perfect.

Nothing like a OS that fit on 5 to8 diskettes. Nothing like the garbage they have now that is several Gigabites of stuff that you will never use, and a file ystem that is so obscure that even the programmers who made it have a hard time figuring it out.

Then of course when they "no longer support " something they install a virus into the program that will cause the computer to have issues like they did with Windows 8

This last Windows 10 “upgrade” seems to have removed the DVD player software and require you to pay for a “new” one. I found this out when a video sent to me wouldn’t play. My wife found this out when none of her instruction DVDs would play at a weekend course she was trying to teach.

I HATE Windows 10 and every ’’update’’ makes it worse. They should have stopped at Windows 98.

Try System Restore, back to a Restore Point before Microsoft’s release of their β— test. (My first real job was software programming for the DOD. Try releasing that kind of crap to them and watch what they do to you. And you think no annual pay raise is a bad thing.)

I had windows XP till I had to update to a new computer and I have liked Windows 10 the best as the updates don’t cause the problems the previous versions of Windows did when it was update time.

In the 70s and 80s in our work computers updates were weekly, and sometimes more often! (Lots of fun for me though, I got to program them!)

I must be incredibly lucky not to have experienced any of the issues that so many of you have written about Windows 10. I have two HP laptops and an ASUS desktop, all on Windows 10 1903. I’ve never had trouble with any of them and I use all three daily. Cloned the systems from HDD to SSD on both laptops.

My old HP Windows XP machine is in my guest room. XP has been replaced with Linux.

I no longer use them but I have a couple of old desktops from work in the attic. One on Windows 95 and the other on Windows 2000. Both still functioned the last time I checked. Anybody want an obsolete computer for target practice?
